For years the biggest concern has been the central midfield where we rarely seem to dominate games, from last night’s performance it continues to be a problem.
When we were at our best last season the central 3 were Carvalho ahead of the 2 defensive players, Colback and Guediora or Yacob. Carvalho is a miss at the moment, Silva doing some good things (best corner taker we have had in some time) but a LOT to learn, lost count of the misplaced passes last night. Gueddy and Colback were hardly dynamic but loads of nous and experience, rarely got bossed together.
Now we have 2 from Semedo, Watson, Sow, Bostock, I dont think Lamouchi knows the best combination yet himself. Watson puts a shift in but is well past his best and spends half the time trying to cover when the others have given the ball away. Semedo got 2 MOM awards, energy certainly but makes a lot of mistakes and couldnt pass water last night. Sow and Bostock Ive not seen enough of yet. People say we came into the game when Bostock came on, I thought it was more the opposition had run out of steam.
Are we stronger? We’ve had the opportunity to address it over the summer, we still have 9 central midfielders at the club. Only 3 can play. Im yet to be convinced we have quality not quantity.

I am looking forward to seeing Lolley, Sow and Carvalho in the same eleven.
I don't think that we have had our strongest eleven on the pitch yet but we are still doing ok.

I would agree with that.
I am not sure what our strongest side is yet but I am sure that we haven't seen it.

We brought Bostock, Adomah and Mir off the bench last night and they helped steal a point.
Defo stronger than last season.

The issues is the options up front (or lack of them) that worries me, especially as Grabban just doesn’t look right and cannot lead the line. Mir Is raw, unproven and not a great goal record.
Murphy would cause more issues coming on.

You've mentioned 'leading the line' a few times Widdow and I'm just curious what you want from Grabban. I want him to score goals, and if we give him the service he'll do that. He's not going to play the Murphy role of holding the balls up and bringing others into play (though I think he can, he did on a couple of occasions last season) and we've not been playing that way from what I've seen of this season either.

Widdow, serious question, I am not trying to be funny. Do you think that in January we should sign a top class striker to REPLACE Grabban?

Of course I do SD. He is 31 with Achilles issues and we need more. He just seems to hesitate now, takes extra touches. End of day we need top competition in every area
We brought in Samba Brice when already had Muric.
Why bring in Cherma when we have Worrall doing well?
Proper competition in midfield and full backs.
Yet up front we have Grabban.
We need pace.
I would also look to bring in another attacking winger.
Why should we rest on our laurels, best teams strengthen every window and to me only areas upfront and wide need addressing in January.
