Wasn't it reported that Barnsley offered him a contract that would've made him their highest paid player in their history? Think his head was already turned, can't blame him. Jimmy Garner and Abdou Harroui will be more than good enough for us I reckon.

Why didnt they get Mowatt to sign a new deal, why didnt they get Ameobi to sign a new deal. Perhaps because neither player wanted to and because they were offered something far better than their current clubs could afford elsewhere.

I'm sure that is out of his control if they player refuses to sign a new deal despite repeated attempts to get him to do so.

There's still some decent talent in L1;
I am a fan of Owen Dale at Crewe. Can play all across the front four. He's dynamic, can go left or right, has a little bit of feisty bite to him, likes to drive with the ball and is a shifty player too.
Also like Harry Darling at MK Dons. Ball playing Centre-Back.
Mat O'Riley at MK Dons is a culture CM who makes things tick from deep, Matt Grimes-like.
Tom Pearce at Wigan is a good left-back, likes to get forward, good left foot.
Tayo Edun at Lincoln, plays left-back, can also play LM and CM. Mobile player, comfortable in possession, likes to get forward and is an athlete.

So why wasn't he (Mowatt) offered a contract 12 months earlier when he had another year to go?
And if he didn't sign it then they could have sold him and got a fee.
Either way it seems a bit naive to let by far your best player's contract to run down and allow him to leave on a free.
Thank God we didn't do that with Matty Cash for example.
Anyway this is not an attack on Dane but I was just pointing out the fact that Mowatt was allowed to leave on a free.

Do we know when he was and wasn't offered a new deal? Or if discussions took place around the subject?
Looks to me Mowatt was always going to test free agency, knowing he's at the prime point of his career to pick up what will probably be his best ever contract, and earn way beyond what Barnsley could ever afford, even as their top earner.
