Its a big industrial area with room for development. Newsflash. The world including football has changed a lot since you loved fans pissing down the Trent End steps. In every area of life people are more fickle, see themselves as consumers. That is especially for younger people especially who are the future of every club. Many thousands are unable to get tickets. To maintain the current interest you have to make hay whilst the sun shines. If we don’t they will go elsewhere. Many top clubs have moved to bigger better stadiums. Not many would go back. Over the years there has been lots of work exploring how the city ground might be expanded to compete with other premier league and the conclusion was always the same. Not feasible. Not adapting to a changed environment will only lead to demise. RE: The Infrastructure Projects - Salvatore Matrecano - 01-08-2024 Whilst I ultimately disagree with TT I believe you have a valid opinion and its a bit insulting to suggest you are talking rubbish. Yes I do agree other clubs who moved have history too. In addition younger fans go where they are entertained. My own nephew wants to follow the Sheep because he went on a trip to a match and they made a fuss of him. His Forest supporting Dad is mortified but can’t get him a ticket at the CG. Again its a valid point. Football has indeed moved with the times but the City Ground hasn’t. Commercially it is currently a disaster and yes I would prefer to be able to wash my hands after a half time piss, Im not 14 years old anymore. The whole ground needs urgently updating and to be able to bring in more revenue. The best way to do that? Demolish the whole damn thing and rebuild a stadium on the same or nearby site with other facilities and create a Forest Village. That wont happen for many different reasons but principally because there isnt the space. However where our opinions differ is I believe selling our soul when we can make do isnt worth it, particularly when the option is to leave a good location to go to a (very) bad one. You think it is worth it and fans will come around to the idea. Its a fair debate, lets see how it pans out. Again its a valid point. If Carling did football stadiums ours would be at the City Ground. No Forest fan would say different. If it’s possible to build a much larger multi purpose stadium with great hospitality facilities then that would be the best option for the club by far. However, the current stalemate for just 5,000 extra seats as already dragged on for five years and got no further down line. Doughty looked at expanding to much bigger and got the same answer as the current owners. It genuinely doesn’t look possible. RE: The Infrastructure Projects - ToryTom - 02-08-2024 Reading between the lines it looks like the club were offered a lot of land at Toton on the cheap. It probably would have been enough to build the stadium with the facilities they wanted and maybe academy and trading facilities as well. The city ground site could no way match that. It sounded like an opportunity similar to that offered West Ham. Probably the potential Toton stadium would be more suited for football because it would have been built just for that purpose. The downside would have been the nostalgia older fans have for the City Ground and its distance away from the City Ground site. I still would not be surprised if we eventually move there because it will be extremely unlikely, because of multiple reasons, the City Ground site can be developed in the way the club want. IMO and the POV I have regarding Toton, isnt so much the distance from the City Ground but the distance from the City!! Forest have always predominantly been the city side and Notts the county side. The fact the City Ground is now in the county rather than within the city limits was down to political boundaries changing and the ground is just yards outside of the boundary at present. But to move out to the Derbyshire border is just not comprehensible. IF the club decide it is not an option to stay on the CG site, then I would hope they can find an alternative site somewhere nearer to the city, but where is anyones guess. RE: The Infrastructure Projects - JollyLollyAussie - 02-08-2024 How about knocking down the council house and building a ground in the Square, cant get more central then that! Unfortunately we’ve missed a few opportunities to rebuild in a central location which I think most fans would find acceptable. I think with imagination it could have been possible to put a stadium at the Broadmarsh site develop it into a multi purpose leisure and commercial area. Would have needed too many people to let go of their preconceptions that football fans cause problems in city centres though. RE: The Infrastructure Projects - JollyLollyAussie - 02-08-2024 Take it back to it's namesake - The Forest rec, plenty of room! The summer sand-pit and the winter ice rink might cause issues, although some might argue it'd be like the old days. RE: The Infrastructure Projects - JollyLollyAussie - 02-08-2024 Played great entertaining and winning football on those type of pitches under BC Pap, how would some of those players fare on the snooker table pitches we now have these days? I think even my amateur footballing days long past would have improved me to a much better standard thinking of some of playing fields of long past around Nottingham and the wider area!! RE: The Infrastructure Projects - Sausage Roll - 16-08-2024 No dates given but according to Dan Taylor's article in The Athletic the corner sections are still some way off completion: "For now, however, work to create a “corner box” development between the Trent End and the Brian Clough stand remains unfinished. The new facility will not be ready for a while yet and nor will the specially created annexe that is being put up for owner Evangelos Marinakis to watch matches, starting tomorrow with their first game of the new Premier League season against Bournemouth. Work is ongoing — a frenzy of hard hats, fluorescent-jacketed workmen and whirring machinery." RE: The Infrastructure Projects - Sausage Roll - 16-08-2024 However - the club have managed to install a ridiculously over-the-top star outside one of the doors at the back of the Peter Taylor stand. |
