The Greek League and European Competition's are worlds apart from The Championship. I don't think there's a set way to win or get promoted from the Champ, but I do think the British lower leagues contain more physicality than any other major pro leagues in the world, by some distance, and that it can be tough to adapt to for foreign players who don't have a naturally robust build or attitude. Fair few times I've seen Carvalho take a few kicks early doors, and then he disappears for the rest of the game. You can tell he's not used to it. I'd also say that skill is more expensive than physical prowess. Look at the difference in cost between Sow & Carva, under 1m Vs 13m, but look at the influence Sow has on games - way more than Carva has all season. So with where we are as a club we need to bare that in mind. I think a club like ours can't afford to build a skill-based team yet. However, I do think we can, and have very much nearly, built a physically based one. You still need skill, but not at the expense of the foundation level stuff such as physicality & grit. Best hope for Carva is that he really digs in, and makes his skill count SO much that we can carry him, or toughens up instead. It's just a crap way to spend 13m, when we could have bought all of Grosicki, McGinn, Olivera, Maddison, - to name just a few, for the money they went elsewhere for or can be bought for. The club's doing great. It's final major step forward would be to know the ins & outs of the British league & it's up & coming players. So far it has failed considerably on that front, and we've wasted too much money on bad-value buys like Carva & Soudani (16m right there) instead of snapping up the British bargains which will both get us out this league, and skyrocket in price. The continental connections may bare us fruit, but relying on just that is gonna see other teams nab players better suited to the British game. And I'd want them here instead. RE: Our Iberians - Camms - 07-11-2019 The thing is there has been lots of players who are slightly built who have lit up The Championship. I am not sure if I agree with this physical or he needs to bulk up argument. Silva's on his way to being one. Not just phsyicality, but mentalty as well. I'm sure Carva will get there. His attitude is spot on. But that needs to transition into action & progress now. How though? He can't get in the team. RE: Our Iberians - Jasper Scarrott - 08-11-2019 Carvalho is behind Watson, Sow, Semedo, Yates, Bostock and Silva for a starting place. Sad but true. Good question! lol. I'm hoping Mouch is coaching some of the stuff needed into him, and that his body is catching up more & more with missing pre-season every day. Really he's just got to grasp the opportunity when it presents itself. But so far he's failed to do that both this & last year, with only Boro standing out as a real statement. I'd love to see him do what he did against Boro against the sheep Sat RE: Our Iberians - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 08-11-2019 Me too, I think we all would but the truth is that he most probably won't get on the pitch. RE: Our Iberians - Kylos247 - 08-11-2019 And doesn't deserve too, chances are we will see the same side we saw at Luton. And rightly so. RE: Our Iberians - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 09-11-2019 I agree Kylos. No need to change a winning team. How likely do you think that is Sniffer, on a scale of 1-10? RE: Our Iberians - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 09-11-2019 Silva starting to look like an absolute bargain. RE: Our Iberians - Sausage Roll - 09-11-2019 He was magnificent today. |
