RE: Vote Of Confidence - Widdow - 26-04-2021

Sack now.

People talk about giving him the whole season, well he has had a practically a whole season bar 4 games at the start. He has had two transfer windows (albeit not too long in the summer, but enough time to bring in one of his old boys in Knockeart).

Our performances seem to be getting worse not better, he plays players who i am not sure how they earned shirt (freeman picked again on saturday just for starters). He has made us defensive, but still let in goals, and when we do hard to come back from and win. Therefore after 42 games we are where we deserve to be. If SHeff Wed hadnt had 6 points deducted, things could be closer.

A phrase CH likes to use, first and foremost, has anyone seen an improvement in a team who just missed out of play offs but started the season badly? It was not like the Barnsley manager who took over at the same time, who took a team just avoided relegation and took them to the play offs.

For all his experience, he just cant get a consistent tune out of the players at his disposal. Other managers have been sacked with better records than CH Drawn 15, Lost 14 and Won just 13, or in other words a dismal 1.4 games a match and a 31% win rate.

What are the signs he will do any better in the next season, cause he did it before, well he didnt do it at Norwich or Newcastle.

Only positive is he knows the players now, he knows the club and what's required to get us fighting for top 6, that's the bare minimum, and that was his aim at beginning of his tenure this season. He failed miserably, and if we keep him, it will no doubt be more passionless, dour football and mid table obscurity, but hey he did do it in the 3rd season for Brighton!

RE: Vote Of Confidence - audiosmee - 26-04-2021

Much as I understand a lot of the differing views about CH, I still sit and question why we don’t get more out of players we have? Players that were doing well seem to stall at the WFCG- players who haven’t done we’ll go elsewhere and do ok.

Is there really a gypsy curse? To have had good managers consistently fail says something. I think the players do need to shoulder some responsibility but the acquisition of players with appropriate attitudes must be a priority.

We signed a changing room full of new players (again) and we wonder why we have no fluidity or apparent team ethos? I’d love a more restricted, specific view of recruitment.

I also think that a full WFCG is worth a huge amount too- how many players are used to full stadiums to spur them on? I think I’d find a quiet stadium too much like a training exercise.

RE: Vote Of Confidence - northeastred - 26-04-2021

Seems all quiet on the socials this morning, theres usually a monday motivation tweet up by now, or they would of tweeted at least twice by now, unless the social guys have left too ha

RE: Vote Of Confidence - northeastred - 26-04-2021

Totally agree with all the points widdow, reading manager also came in as a unknown and look where they are... attacking football gets goals.. not setting up for negative 1 nils then when we concede we shit ourselves because there is no plan b

Don't forget he won promotion with a team worth 100s of millions what mike bassett would of got up

He's had half a season more than what he did when he first went to brighton, they were well down, not 7 points off the play offs, "steadying the ship" was never the target, never will be..

The empty stadium is the same for everyone though so not sure you can use that as an excuse.

I think it's a combination of three things, one is parachute payments which massively distorts the competitive balance. I wish this was more appreciated as it's pretty difficult to make a challenge without them. Barnsley and Reading this year are the only examples from this season, so immediately its harder.

Two, we don't have a great team, we were lucky to finish as high as we did under Sabri and we lost a number of our best players either sold or injured.

Three, we have consistently failed in the transfer market and keep wasting the benefits of our excellent academy. The strategy has been very short termist recently, although we have invested heavily in academy players too, players like Mcguane. So hopefully these will start to provide us with more academy options to fill out the squad.

Think you might be over estimating our importance if you think EM is looking at this poll though!

I doubt that he will be looking at this poll, and if he did I doubt he would be swayed by it one way or the other.

One thing which will sway his mind is the fact that he is four seasons into his ownership and so far it has cost him 184m.

He now has a manager with a record of success in this division; he needs to stick with him.

If not for the good of the Club then it is certainly for the good of his wealth.

I disagree with this attitude, why are you and others trying to abdicate responsibility. Just because EM makes the decisions doesn't mean he is swayed by fan opinion. I'm sick of fans hiding behind EM's record of sacking managers as an excuse to not back managers. (I can clearly see you are backing him here btw, that's not the point I'm making) The point is that by saying that you give others who want rid an excuse to be negative.

There is no responsibility to abdicate.

I have not come close to either hiring or firing one of our former managers; having an opinion is not the same as having responsibility.

I am firmly in the keep Hughton camp; he has done a good job so far and I cannot think of anyone more suitable for the job.

And when you look at who his detractors are, that kind of confirms things for me.

I agree you are clearly not the problem, that's not what I was saying.

Opinions matter though, it feeds through to the stands which feeds through to the pitch and the boardroom. I'm just trying to articulate the value of a fan opinion. We know EM and co monitor social media and confidence from fans will feed through to players and management.

I just don't like the suggestion that you can say what you want with no consequence. Football is about marginal gains, so some fan support might be the marginal improvement required.

RE: Vote Of Confidence - Salvatore Matrecano - 26-04-2021

I agree fan support in the stadium is a useful and very public barometer. I honestly dont think some teenagers (and plenty old gits ) moaning on twitter makes much difference otherwise every club in the country would change managers 6 times a season.

And do you think Norwich's Mr. Farker would have got this Sabri squad higher than 15th in his 1st season in charge with no pre-season and no recruitment apart from a band aid January window?

Stats you quote.  Many of those draws were very close.  Could have been wins.  With better recruitment from Sabri.

Steadying the ship this season was the target given the content of the job Hughton took over.  Forest were a shell of the side that beat Leeds.  Poor pre-season planning, poor recruitment.  Shocking start from the previous incumbent.

Reading look like they're going to miss out on the play offs.

I don't think EM would put up with that.  Maybe he'd get fired too?

If you want attacking football.  You need to recruit accordingly.  Players with energy.  Pace.  Robust athletes who can win headers and impose themselves on the Championship game.

Who recruited this 'pedestrian' squad again? All those CMs? Who signed all those great CMs? Ironically, that left Hughton to recruit ANOTHER CM in January. One that could actually pass a ball and link midfield to attack. :P

Sabri couldn't make the top 6?  But Hughton is expected to with players from two previous managers?  And no pre-season?
