Well past is sell by date now, club should have been proactive and sold last summer. You know they couldve bought Toney for just £5m last year, but clubs transfer strategy is bad (dont listen to me), and Hughton thought Murray was the answer in Janaury, mind you his 2 goals against Wycombe probably helped to save us this season, so guess he was right.
What the club could have done in the years since they bought Grabban aren't on Hughton.
He clearly didn't think Murray was a long term answer. It's obvious to any novice that bringing in Murray was a stop gap to ease the situation with injury hit Grabban (3 injuries this season?), the out of form Lyle.
And though Murray hasn't scored a hat full he did secure a mighty fine brace which helped give Forest a confidence boosting win and a vital set of 3 points at the right time.
With a manager with a track record of goals at Brighton, we'd expect Hughton to build on Forest's defensive resolve this Summer with a swat team of goal scorers.

That's the take away from Hughton's 'builder' 1st season. Build a solid foundation and build from the back.
I wouldn't mind what he did at Brighton to take Forest back.
Watching Brighton from afar (a club that didn't even have their own ground a while back...) it looked very exciting what was happening to them under Hughton. Character. Goals. Consistency.
I don't know what Forest were doing at the time for me to be looking enviously at Brighton. But they were winning. And they were scoring goals. And they had a decent league position.
They even got promoted.

Also, only 3 teams in the whole football league scored less goals (Brum, Derby and Southend).
And lest not forget the dire football
He does have something to build on, but I remain unconvinced by the manager, let’s see what he does in the summer market. No excuses after that, although if he stays, he has to stay to end of the season, or May as well sack him now.

The most important stat is the number of points accrued and position in the table. Everything else is secondary.
We over achieved last season and were in free fall at the beginning of this. Hughton has stabilised the slide towards relegation, brought some much needed defensive resilience, and built a platform to build on for next season.
We are a work in progress, 7 months into his tenure, but it’s been a solid and encouraging start.

I agree with you there Sabri.
For example, a 30% win rate, coupled with a draw rate of 60% and 10% loss rate, whilst not brilliant, isnt too bad a figure compared to lets say a 40% win rate with a draw rate of 10% and a loss rate of 50%.
The 30% win rate example i have used would give a total of 69 points, which is maybe just outside the play offs, whilst the 40% win rate example would only afford 60 points (actually 59.8, so figure rounded up), which would probably be a mid table finish.
It's how you dress these figures up to which way you want to put across your argument. All %'s have to be taken into consideration to make a valid argument, not just the part that supports the argument.
As Sabri has indicated, the most important stat is total amount of points won and where that leaves us in the table.

Agree with all of that Sabri apart from the we over achieved last season bit. Ive seen that said by a number of people and I think it’s rubbish, we finished 7th and thats where we deserved to be. Sure we sh*thoused our way to a few wins but were unlucky other games too. But importantly there were some wins against the top teams Fulham, Leeds etc where we were utterly dominant and reached a level far higher than we ever achieved this season. For that reason I get annoyed when people slag off your namesake, he did remarkably well. Hughton is a slow work in progress and I hope next season will be much better.

if CH manages the team with the same template ((s) though let's face it, it was 1 fixed template), a template which is fixed is actually anti management, a fixed template nullifies pretty much everything, the same system every single game, that is really like treating every team as being superior, most decisions he did make were reactive. the subs and captains armband and depth of squad in certain areas weren't deemed of any significant benefit. Same for setting up differant for differant opponents, we set up exactly the same, this is totally unacceptable to me and more akin to a template for mediocrity and disappointment than excellence.
Look, we have to make some sort of sense of last season, some of us, particularly me think the squad was overall capable of much more. The moral, team spirit, motivation is the managers job and that worked but only really as far as not getting relegated, same with the 'template', maybe it was a managerial masterstroke, maybe the plan was 'just don't get relegated' if so i'd like to know, it could be the case, maybe has to be.
What will change next season? Besides some promoted new kids on the block and other teams getting there acts together, and being highly motivated and chomping at the bit to get one over on us. I can imagine that many teams will be happy with point at the City Ground which could mean booing at HT and not enough to fire up the fans

I agree he did a good job, and of course you’re right that a team finishes where they deserve to in the table. I was speaking more generally in terms of our place in the financial pecking order, which is around 12/13th. So as a club 7th is higher than would be expected all other things being equal.
