RE: Your Thoughts On The Current Nottingham Forest Manager - Paplane - 11-05-2021 (11-05-2021, 07:30 AM)Plymouth red Wrote: You could argue that the difference between this season and last season comes down to Grabban. Totally this. His drop off has been hugely costly. RE: Your Thoughts On The Current Nottingham Forest Manager - Salvatore Matrecano - 11-05-2021 A bit unfair that on Grabban, no way you can pin the poor season on him. Yes he has missed a few sitters, all strikers do but the service he has had has been woeful this season for the most part. It wasnt that much better last season, it was under appreciated how well he did as our only striker, played every game and 20 goals. I dont have the stats to hand of how many chances and xG etc but Im sure it was pretty good. He has dropped off this season yes but the whole team has. Someone put a few weeks ago Toney would have struggled with us this year, agree with that. Been looking for some stats as I know last season I saw one that showed Grabban with the second most clear cut chances missed in the league behind Patrick Bamford. Obviously worth acknowledging that Grabban's all round game is excellent and he offers a lot to the team beyond his goal threat. I've found some stats, they're not amazing but give an indication of a clear drop off. His %shots on target has dropped from 37% to 27%, his total shots per game has actually gone up from 2.16 to 2.31, however shots on target % has gone down from 0.81 to 0.63. The biggest one that shows a decline is goals per shots on target has dropped from 0.46 to 0.29. For an unfair comparison Toney had a %shot on target of 43% and goals per shots on target of 0.36. I don't think these are amazing stats as there's a number of things that could cause the decline such as shooting less and from weaker positions. A better stat would be % of clear cut chances or xG players stats (you've got to pay for those though!) However it's fairly clear there is a clear drop off this season and his total shots per game hasn't even gone down which perhaps belies the suggestion he had loads worse service. HE ended the previous season with 2 goals in 18 (one being a penalty) he has been on the decline for a while. Or of course, he may prefer playing with a crowd behind him, who knows? But at 33, with one year left on his contract of £30k plus a week, I would be doing my best to sell him this summer if we can (which is what i said last summer). I've seen it with my own eyes, he's struggled this season. Yes, there may be mitigating reasons for this but his finishing has dropped off. Every single week CH comes out after a game and laments the team's lack of goals. He doesn't point the finger at Grabban, but the issue is mentioned, almost every week. And Salv, I agree that last season (Sabri's season), he was excellent and his game is much more than scoring, but his drop off in this regard has cost us. I've been assuming for a while now that it's inevitable that he'd leave this summer but we're not getting those vibes yet coming through. I'm thinking he might stop on. RE: Your Thoughts On The Current Nottingham Forest Manager - ozzyten10 - 11-05-2021 He was flogged for 2 seasons running - it was bound to catch up with him. I was impressed with his first half v Preston in the second striker role - they really struggled to contain him and no coincidence when they man to man marked him second half the game turned a bit( they were still jammy with 2 goals that should have been disallowed). I think it’s up to him- if he has an offer of Middle East or US he should go. I also think he’d be a good signing for olympiacos - I think he’d do well. If he stays his role should be an experienced striker used as and when needed- not our go to source for goals- these have dried up! He's got a bit of a rep for not being happy as a backup though so we'll see. As seen in the Sunderland show on netflix but also even at Forest with the fact he takes penalties despite clearly being terrible at them RE: Your Thoughts On The Current Nottingham Forest Manager - Username - 11-05-2021 Completely off topic but I would wager that Yates has missed more clear cut chances this season than Grabban. RE: Your Thoughts On The Current Nottingham Forest Manager - Fumanchew - 11-05-2021 On the balance of it though is that unexpected? All players need to step up, but strikers are paid big money purely because they're expected to win games for the side. Cloughy used to say as much. RE: Your Thoughts On The Current Nottingham Forest Manager - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 11-05-2021 Yates has missed more headers but I'd say that Grabban has missed more sitters overall. |
