Yep, you're probably right. We've had some decent games out of him and now he goes back and we start again at square one. That's why I wouldn't want the side stuffed with these young lads, no matter how talented. You can add one, maybe even two into a side to up the talent level but it's not sustainable, unless they actually get you promoted. Look how the sheep fell away when all Lampard's young talent went back.

Personally I'd like to see the loan system banned. It would mean young players would need to sign for lower league clubs if they want to play games and develop a career. Over time it would stop clubs like chelsea hoarding all the young talent and would restore the flow of transfer money down the system.

Its a nice idea Pap but the reality is you ban loans and it would hasten the arrival of offical U23 teams playing in the league. Either that or Chelsea start buying up teams like Crawley etc and fill them with their youngsters who are transferred back to them when convenient. Not sure its that easy to beat the system.
Its a separate point but the anger about the ESL was so hypocritical, as soon as it died we have reverted back to the staus quo al the talk of reform swept under the carpet. The top 4 will always qualify for the CL regardless, West Brom and Fulham will be dead certs for promotion next season and the inequality continues.

Yeah its a shame that anger doesn't get put towards parachute payments, that's the big thing at our level. Would be game changing too as there'd be loads more to go around at league one/two level

I have seen it mentioned on various threads now about Hughton being a defensive manager.
I also saw the post about how many goals his Brighton team scored when they got promoted which was far from defensive.
As it occurred to anyone that this season Hughton was simply playing to the squads strength and that next season with a different looking squad we will see a different approach to games.
I don't buy this Hughton is a dinosaur or Hughton is ultra defensive.

Depending on how good we are in the transfer window will answer a lot of questions and doubts about Hughton.

I'm with you on this point Jasp. I have mentioned on here a number of times the amount of goals both Brighton and Newcastle had scored in their promotion seasons, plus Brightons failed play off year. Both with Newcastle and Brighton, CH was very defensive in his first season, guaranteeing safety in the league before putting his stamp on his squad.
If I recall, Brighton were a very exciting team to watch once CH had got his squad together

Just looked up the stats for Newcastle United for Season 2009-2010 Chris Hughton was the Manager. They were promoted as Champions with a record 102 points. The most played formation would you believe. You'll never guess this. I was surprised when I read it. 442 Also played 451. So apparently he is not wedded to 4231 !! Top scorers were Kevin Nolan ( Midfielder )
17 goals and Andy Carroll 19 goals. So the goals must have been spread around the team. The only thing to bear in mind was that they had a really good squad that had only come down from the Premier League for the first time. Still, food for thought.

A classic 442 leaves you light in midfield and you get over-run as a result. It's a dinosaur these days imo.

I think some teams have made it work particularly in championship, it puts a lot of pressure on the central midfielders, Burnley seem to do well in prem with it.
That said I think his preferred formation was a 451 although that was essentially 442 with a support striker linking play.
It's not like 4231 has exactly got us flying
