I don't think it's a case of putting himself up for every job though. He's not getting Spurs, Leicester even if survive will struggle next year, West Ham would be tempting but again losing Rice not sure how good they are outside of Bowen. Palace don't have a big budget, Leeds I can see the temptation but the similarities of the two teams might feel like he's no better off. Possibility of one of the higher up midtable teams having their manager poached and then could get on of those roles I suppose. I accept it's not clear cut, I don't really see why it would factor in to the decision this year regardless. I just don't buy into this 'if we go down it's ok because Steve will bring us back up again' mentality. There is no guarantee that Steve would be here and even if he was there is no guarantee that we would come straight back up again. The pressure and expectation will be high to do a Burnley. However, we shouldn't need to bring in many new players, just a keeper and maybe a LB so we should have a settled team and can have a good preseason. I think the odds will be in our favour but obviously you take nothing for granted. Another perk of keeping Cooper is the guys that signed to play for him will be more likely to give us a year. I'm thinking MGW primarily. RE: Leeds - Nottingham Forest - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 04-04-2023 We better get back on track. Tonight do or die. With Coops I would say we have a 50/50 chance of staying up. I can tell you the dressing room is very strongly behind him, and no other manager would instantly have that trust of the players. Without Coops and a fire fighter for the rest of the season, i would say we have less than a 25% chance of staying up. Stats show over the last 20 years, there have been 39 managerial changes in the Prem after March. Only 20% of those changes resulted in an improved league position from when the change was made. I am not in the Cooper out camp personally Reds73. My do or die comment was more about staying up or going down, it wasn't aimed at Steve's future. RE: Leeds - Nottingham Forest - ozzyten10 - 04-04-2023 Damage has already been done I’m afraid - we need 3 wins and I can’t see us getting them - we will lose or draw tonight. I’m sitting in the Villa end next week and dreading it. RE: Leeds - Nottingham Forest - wassy04 - 04-04-2023 The way I see it we were clear favourites to go down at the start of the year. Would we have taken this position at that point, maybe add 3 points on Saturday and probably yes. We got lucky the fixtures fell this way round, hard fixtures get easier as the season gets on and easy fixtures get harder as teams are fighting hard. There's a number of openings coming up in our upcoming matches too: Leeds - have a bunch of injuries to key players too Man Utd (H) - on poor form but still probably safe in top 4, this game is sandwiched between their Europa league games against Sevilla followed by the FA Cup semi final. I think it'll be a great time to play them and they may well not prioritise the game. Brighton (H) - 3 days after the aforementioned cup semi final above vs Utd, probably not in top 4 contention, you've got to presume they prioritise the Wembley trip. Wouldn't be the first team to have a hangover after a Wembley trip, fantastic time to play them. Brentford (A) - Toney may be banned by then Southampton (H) - perhaps optimistic but could this be the game that relegates them Chelsea (A) - not playing for much by then Arsenal (H) - might be already champions or in full on collapse mode. Lots of scenarios here, might need just a point for the title for example which might suit us. Palace (A) - Likely long since safe and watching Roy disappear in the sunset again. As I said massively beneficial playing these teams now when they still have cup and Euro games etc. There's actually still ages left, believe! RE: Leeds - Nottingham Forest - JollyLolly - 04-04-2023 I also agree with Ozzy, this situation has been building for many weeks now and not really addressed by SC. It will take an absolute and complete change of fortune to save us from the drop now even though there is over 25% of the season left. The fixtures still to play do not favour us and relying on accumulating points at home for the last 3/4 months was not helpful. I am resigned to the Championship for next season and have for some time now as we constantly failed to turn up for games while other fellow strugglers got their heads down and have battled for every point, can any on here honestly say that has been Forest approach? We have been far to negative and once we had a lead tried to defend as opposed to going for the jugular. I hope that if/when we go down that we can clear out some of the deadwood in the squad and bring in some hungry young players from the lower divisions and bounce straight back similar to Burnley playing attractive goal scoring football. RE: Leeds - Nottingham Forest - ozzyten10 - 04-04-2023 I’ve lost the belief following the Newcastle result. Wolves - we actually made them look worse than us but we still let them dominate the ball at 1-0 a bit like spurs last night. We rely so much on jonno and MGW - no one else seems to contribute in goals or assists. Leeds tonight will come out all guns blazing and I think we will crumble as per our other away matches - this will be like West Ham RE: Leeds - Nottingham Forest - wassy04 - 04-04-2023 (04-04-2023, 01:45 PM)JollyLolly Wrote: I also agree with Ozzy, this situation has been building for many weeks now and not really addressed by SC. I think that's pretty unfair really, the quality has been lacking but definitely still battled hard. Newcastle, Everton, Man City, Fulham, Leeds where we won, Bournemouth. All tight battling performances, pushed hard against Fulham for an equaliser, Everton kept going until the end and nearly won it, Bournemouth we were poor first half but battled to a point. Newcastle we were outplayed yet kept working hard and nearly got a point. Just because the quality is lacking doesn't mean we're not battling. Really only West Ham we capitulated, even Spurs where we were beaten easily we battled back to 3-2 if we don't miss a pen. |
