RE: Nottingham Forest - Swansea - GaribaldiRED - 13-07-2020 Agree TPL, results are definitely number one on the list. Playing "entertaining" football without getting results is not sustainable in the short/medium run. 1. Result What would number 2 on entertainment list be? RE: Nottingham Forest - Swansea - ThePromisedLand - 13-07-2020 Winning a trophy. RE: Nottingham Forest - Swansea - GaribaldiRED - 13-07-2020 Getting better and better results could lead to eventually winning trophies. If we focus on the 90+ minutes of a game then what do we consider being entertaining football? Could always play another defender just to completely be on the safe side. The intent to entertain and outscoring our way to the points focus is a beautiful utopian craving and the idealist in me wants the best of everything football product packaged in the ultimate Forest retro strip, but unfortunately this might not happen next game or in our lifetime. I know we all criticize referees but i think the whole game is developing around an acceptance that the ref will generally spoil games, mainly by being consistently very poor at playing advantages and bottling giving penalties. Also, we, or anyone, but let's say we spring 8 counters in a game, options and wide open spaces, 7 times the player is either decked or play gets pulled back and 6 of those no cards. The 'Sabri' is the future, much of the strategy is to cope with the game getting stopped and pulled back and players who can mentally cope and ideally wired for this type of game and ultimately, after grinding and attrition eventually work it out to a positive result. The smash and grab, the cheats, the negative side is predominantly a fix to cope and ultimately capitalise out of a game where the most exciting moving parts are broken. RE: Nottingham Forest - Swansea - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 13-07-2020 Why can't some people appreciate the art of defending? It's a huge part of the game. As a former defender I love defending and defensive Football with fast attacking intent on the break. My arse involuntarily rising off my seat - could be a goal, dribble, pass or even a tackle that gets the crowd going. RE: Nottingham Forest - Swansea - Tricky - 13-07-2020 For me, entertaining football is Brice Samba pulling off a worldy save from out of the top corner, catching the resulting corner before quickly bowling the ball out to Cashy, who runs three quarters of the length of the pitch at 47.65 MPH before putting in a first time cross, only for it to be headed away by a defender, but it drops onto the left foot of Joe Lolley, who at 33.75 feet from goal volleys the ball into the top left hand corner of the net, leaving the opposition goalkeeper flapping at thin air. From the resulting restart, the ball is played down our left and the oppositions pacey winger gets beat to the ball by Ribero, who stands on the ball, looks up and sees Silva skipping forwards towards him. He plays a first time ball to Silva, who dummys the ball and allows the ball to roll to Sammi Ameobi, who plays a delightful 76 yard pass right on to the fast approaching Grabban, who hits his shot first time, right footed into the bottom right hand corner of the net! ..........................................Thats entertaining football RE: Nottingham Forest - Swansea - GaribaldiRED - 13-07-2020 I totally agree Sniffer. That is definitely entertainment for me as well. A team that is well drilled in defending and just waiting for the right moment to spring to life in a lightning fast counter attack. Look at Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone. Would you define what they are doing as boring football? The only team in Europe to beat Liverpool twice this season. I certainly appreciate the art of defending so I’d like to know who you’re referring to on that one. What I don’t appreciate is the way we set up just not to loose never mind even trying to score a bloody goal. At home we should be taking the game to the opposition. I can’t think of one game this season where we’ve done that. It’s a blessing fans aren’t allowed in at the minute, we’re terrible to watch. Ryan Yates is a box to box midfielder???? Then I’m Lionel Messi. We dont play 3 defensive mids we play 1, Watson plus 2 box to box No8s. Yes I’m quite aware there’s more than one way to win a football match. But this bloke sets up both not to loose & not to win. Montanier was a terrible manager and we really didn’t play any system under him. There’s entertaining managers out there as Leeds, Brentford & Fulham have found out. Passing the ball sideways and backwards 900 times a game is just another way of playing and has got them marginally better results than us. They should have walked this league. RE: Nottingham Forest - Swansea - tugger2018 - 14-07-2020 I hope we have been having some shooting practice we have been way off lately especially Sammy |
