RE: So Where Will We Finish This Season ? - Salvatore Matrecano - 08-05-2021 Thought it was worth bumping this, not out of negativity but a reality check of where we are from where the majority thought we would finish. Even allowing for natural supporter optimism its not often the team finishes so far adrift of what was expected. Interesting to note the poll was made in October AFTER Hughton was appointed and after losing the 1st 4 games. 17th place when over 70% of this forum predicted at least a top 6 finish Finished on 52 points to put it in perspective is only 1 point better than seaosn 2016/7 when we had our own nail biting last day survival bid. I was never as on board as most but I still thought we had assembled a squad strong enough to at least challenge well. Whether you point fingers at the recruitment, the manager for not getting the most out of what he had or the players themselves it has been massively disappointing. No I wont take injuries or no crowds as an excuse, that goes for every other team. The level of performances has been poor too, the previous season we were hugely inconsistent but there were some truly standout games were we looked the business against the top teams and I think had the best record of any team vs the top 6. We never once came anywhere close to that and never beat any of the top 7 teams. Lets see what the summer brings, be interesting to see if we are as optimistic as ever or if this season has well and truly damped expectations. This was before the injuries to Worrall and Grabban though remember, made a pretty big difference. Would've downgraded my prediction if we'd done it a few weeks later. Every team gets injuries and the teams that do better tend to be the ones that get the least or the least impactful injuries. How do you think Brentford would've done this year if Toney was out till christmas? RE: So Where Will We Finish This Season ? - Salvatore Matrecano - 08-05-2021 Grabban wasnt injured until the end of October after you would have voted on this. Worrall played the 1st 2 games of the season. Grabban missed 11 games, Worrall 12. I accept Worrall missing hurt the defence but Grabban has made little impact for the rest of the season, a comparison to Toney is ridiculous. Are you going to be like one of those Derby fans that say they would have finished top 6 if Bielik had been fit? RE: So Where Will We Finish This Season ? - PsychoStanleyStone - 08-05-2021 it's sad looking at the optimistic comments and how quickly it feels it has all ended there a few forumites i haven't seen for a while, i am sure we will all be excited come the start of the next campaign 21/22, that's what following Forest is about highs and lows, so the lower you feel now will make any future highs sheer ecstacy RE: So Where Will We Finish This Season ? - wassy04 - 08-05-2021 (08-05-2021, 03:34 PM)Salvatore Matrecano Wrote: Grabban wasnt injured until the end of October after you would have voted on this. Yeah that was my point, I'd of voted differently if we ran this after CH took over. Grabban was our top scorer last season and our only striker. Given Taylor turned out to be rubbish, you could even argue a fully fit and firing Grabban was more important to us (I've no idea who Brentford's backup striker is). I think it's a very fair comparison. I would imagine if neither had been injured we'd have finished higher up yeah. Not top 6 though as it showed in the end the rest of the squad wasn't good enough. Didn't know how bad the new signings would be signings would be at this point though. Also, I think you would expect a Forest forum to show a bit of positive bias to the team, so the fact that it was marginally playoffs over midtable probably suggests top 10 was about right, when you factor in that bias. This is a cool poll to bring back by the way, interesting if not depressing. Next season we should have all 24 positions as an option so we can have an official COYR prediction! RE: So Where Will We Finish This Season ? - wassy04 - 08-05-2021 Ha just realised this was when CH had taken over! Whoops, please disregard everything I said. Get him out etc :D RE: So Where Will We Finish This Season ? - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 08-05-2021 (08-10-2020, 03:40 PM)stirred Wrote: Window hasn't closed yet but it seems we're going to end it with one of the best 6 squads, possibly top 2. I am smiling at the two posts above because both have been 2 of our biggest critics this season but both voted for play offs. Not signalling you out, it's just a bit of fun. In the next week or so we should do another poll for next season, maybe let everyone calm down a bit first. RE: So Where Will We Finish This Season ? - Alf - 08-05-2021 17th then. Bagowank. RE: So Where Will We Finish This Season ? - Widdow - 08-05-2021 So only one other person voted same as me then Looks like Hughton seriously undelivered, thought there would be more anger Just think with a full season he could take us down. RE: So Where Will We Finish This Season ? - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 08-05-2021 I'll have a 1000 quid with anyone on here right now that Hughton will not take us down. |
