Ha, Im a bit too young to remember but Im told the letters page of the NEP was the place to vent!
I was of course drawing a comparison to our current manager and his slow start. I also wonder if the current owners were in charge in 1975 whether he would have lasted a year in the job before they pulled the trigger.

He was a championship winning manager previously, so might have been given some extra leniency. But I'm fairly sure Cloughy wouldn't have been prepared to work for foreign owners anyway. But times were different back then and Brian Clough could never happen today. His non PC attitude wouldn't have been tolerated by clubs, media etc. Can you image how his running on the pitch and punching players would've gone down, or his treatment of Fashanu, or the alleged receiving of bungs for transfers?
The nearest modern version to him is Mourinho imo. Self confident, talented, respected by players, outspoken (somewhat). I think Cloughy would like him a lot.

Chairmen were scared of Cloughie, back in the day and would bow to his requests (often after the request had been carried out unbeknown to the Chairman at that time!).
I just can't imagine for one minute EM taking a fraction of Cloughies antics and allowing him to get away with them. I don't think the ink on the contract would've been dry before Cloughie was booted out :D

I personally dont think it would be all that bad. Just the size of our fan base & city population suggests to me that we would be in the top 25ish biggest clubs in the country. So if Cloughy had never happened, I reckon we'd still be flitting between the top & 2nd divisions.

I think when BC arrived we were only averaging about 10,000 or so.

Yes but that was a low point. Attendances before then were much better (I think (before my time)).
And even when Cloughy was around, some seasons were poorly attended. I vaguely remember going to a game against someone like Luton or Oxford when there were only 12 or 13 thousand fans there. Will have been early/mid eighties. In hindsight those attendances were scandalous for a team with players of such talent. What we'd give to be able to watch that mid eighties team now.

On Friday 8th January 2010 superb goals from Radoslaw Majewski and Chris Cohen sent Nottingham Forest second in the Championship with a 3-1 victory at West Brom.

You also have t take into account just how dangerous it could be at matches back in the late 70's/early 80's due to hooliganism. Many people stayed away because of that very reason.
Football stadia are so much safer now than they have ever been and despite the fact the Taylor Stand needs to be flattened, it does still meet safety requirements.
Family's are now encouraged to attend
