RE: Referee Watch - Paplane - 23-09-2024 I've just read the Telegraph report of the game, and the comments below. A few neutrals seem to think it was fine, a few say it wasn't. So neutrals are split, as were the ref team. RE: Referee Watch - Trailer Park Tom - 23-09-2024 I don't think we can argue too much about the yellow itself as it could have gone either way. If Taylor (the 4th official) has overturned the onfield decision then that's a problem. If it's the lino then that's fine. RE: Referee Watch - Salvatore Matrecano - 23-09-2024 Far bigger issue for me is why the 4th official was allowed to change the referee’s original decision. Think that’s what Forest are upset about too. RE: Referee Watch - Forest1970 - 23-09-2024 The ref had already made the decision that MWG got the ball and its what happened after thats the problem. If its outside interference from the 4th official then thats a big problem because its not in his remit of being the 4th official. Lets see whats said today about it. I can't even guess what Dermot on sky is going to say about it but what ever it is the ref Jones isn't going to come out of it looking good. I read yesterday on The Athletic that that is also perfectly allowed too, if he has a better view than the ref (in this case it was right in front of him) then what's the problem? Are you honestly telling me if Wellbeck (was on a yellow), did that exact same tackle and got sent off, you'd have been saying the ref got it wrong? Pretty sure there was one against Bournemouth last year that was similar (he wasn't sent off) and everyone was fuming. RE: Referee Watch - Joe Baker Legend - 23-09-2024 Not sure how correct this is, but rather worrying if it is... It’s to help if the ref missed something obvious I haven’t seen the angles but seems like jones was able to see the tackle happen which is why he said MGW got the ball and that should have been it if his opinion is that it wasn’t reckless then it shouldn’t be changed. If the ref has missed an off the ball incident and the forth official has seen then sure get involved RE: Referee Watch - wassy04 - 23-09-2024 (23-09-2024, 03:32 PM)Fumanchew Wrote:(23-09-2024, 11:59 AM)wassy04 Wrote:(23-09-2024, 08:25 AM)Salvatore Matrecano Wrote: Far bigger issue for me is why the 4th official was allowed to change the referee’s original decision. Think that’s what Forest are upset about too. The ref saw that MGW got the ball which was true, doesn't mean his saw his other leg scissor the bloke, which was right in from of the fourth official. Any of the ref team can advice the ref if they think he has missed something. Up to the ref whether he uses that information or not surely, I'm not sure whether the process issue is? It would obviously be great if they could explain their processes for transparency but they got to what I think the majority of people (and certainly the refs) seem to agree is the right decision, so does it really matter what the process was? RE: Referee Watch - Salvatore Matrecano - 23-09-2024 Yes it does matter because it is yet another level of uncertainty and complexity along with VAR where it is unclear who is in charge. The referee should make on field decisions with help from assistants but they should not be overruling and the clubs were told the level for intervention should be very high. VAR as we know does not intervene on yellow card decisions but it does in others which is confusing in itself. The decision making process should be clear to all and applied evenly. It wasn’t yesterday even if the end result was the correct one. As many are pointing out why did the 4th official get involved in this decision and not others? Why does the referee accept the 4th official view on some occasions and not others eg the infamous Liverpool drop ball decision that went against us last year? Its the inconsistency that’s maddening. Unless you have the refs all mic'd we're never going to know the full process. The speculation is simply that the 4th official (or linesman as there's no reason to suggest definitively it was the 4th official), advised the ref that the angle he had was better and therefore the ref agreed and they got to the correct result. The ref will still have made the final call, based on the feedback he received from his team. He essentially missed the fact that the other leg scissored him, due to the angle he had I'm guessing. I still don't get the issue here, I imagine this is how most decisions are made in a game. The only change is the ref confusingly signalled he'd gotten the ball initially, which even if true doesn't negate the reckless nature of the tackle. The high bar for intervention strictly relates to VAR, this was nothing to do with VAR. If you're suggesting that perhaps the VAR intervened instead, then yes that would be controversial and unfair as they are not meant to on yellow card decisions as we sadly know. However, I don't think that complaint has been made so far. RE: Referee Watch - ozzyten10 - 23-09-2024 As long as it’s consistent next time a ref misses a second yellow and the referee’s team point it out! |
