I think it's fair to say that Appiah has stalled a bit and doesn't seem to be progressing as expected, unlike Yates and Johnson who have really kicked on.

People regularly overhype our academy players. The beginning of this thread is a prime example.
I’ve seen every minute of Appiah’s Forest career and have very little idea of what the hype was about. Conversely, I’ve seen every minute of Brennan Johnson’s career and completely get what the hype is about. I’m glad it’s Appiah we’re selling and not Johnson.

We have to understand that this is a business and the academy is there to produce players we can sell and players we can keep.
As a championship the emphasis right now has to be players we can sell.
If Appiah was the player driving the team forward to the Premiership I have no doubt we would keep him.
The fact is, he is not.
The 8 million we get could be well spent acquiring the player or players who will.
Look at the experience we have in the squad and it did not cost too much, apart from Carvalho... I rest my case.

Arvin could have become the player driving us to the premier league. He is 18. We could just as easily waste the 8 million on overrated players, especially from overseas. It is not as if we don't have form for it. To me it feels like a sad day to be losing a top talented youngster who has been at the club since a young child with great things predicted for him.

I completely accept £8M upfront is an extremely good deal, I would have taken that too had it been my decision to sell.
I am a stuck record though in saying that I begrudge if any sale is forced on us to meet FFP due to previous poor recruitment, funding the wages of a squad with 8 central midfielders and 7 central defenders.
I really hope we are not having the same discussion about Brennan Johnson this time next year whilst looking at the next big pile of dead wood we cant seem to shift.

I think if we wanted to keep appiah we would have done. Worral and Yates been two examples we could easily have shifted on in last couple of years if it was a case of needing the money and selling youth but they've been kept for the first team squad.

Can we give the owners and staff a bit more time to sort it out, it was never going to be easy and it was always going to take more than one or two windows. there is light at the end of the tunnel now, we are getting there. Just stay patient a bit longer.

The revolving door of first team management hasn’t helped. If Dourekas and Modesto are now fully in place long term, we may just see a bit of stability and strategy in recruitment. Next summer will be interesting if we are still in EFL...
