Weve not been in the top division for 20 years. Im willing to give any alternative operating model a go to see if it makes a difference.
The positive would be that it provides continuity through the club with players being signed for long term benefit rather than short termism. As at Oly, it might mean the general performance of the club not being affected by the single head coach's performance in his job.
Negatives would be that we have a manager in place for whom I've developed a sincere respect for who has turned the squad around in 12 months and got the players giving their all. He's probably the best manager weve had at the club since Basset. IMO his position will become untennable.

As for the Marseille fans opinion of this guy, what do they really know about what goes on within the confines of a club?
We think David Platt was our worst ever manager, but didnt Alan Rodgers recently say Platt's methods were shit hot and he was way before his time?

Not hugely sure about him or indeed his necessity at the club but I've just been looking over some of these supposed awful transfers he made at Marseille... signed Azpilicueta for £5m sold him 2 seasons later for £8m. Signed Thauvan for £10m and sold him 2 seasons later for £16.5m. Signed Payet for £8m sold him 2 seasons later for £13.5m. Signed Imbula for £6.5m and sold him 2 seasons later for £18m. Signed Lemina for £3.5m sold him 3 seasons later for £9m. Signed Benjamin Mendy for £3.5m sold him 3 seasons later for £11.5m. Signed Batshuayi for £19m and sold him a couple of seasons later for £35m. A few of those players have gone onto make huge money moves since then as well which I'm sure Marseille profited from. I'm sure he signed some duds as well but it's funny people only pay attention to the negative and assume the worst.

I believe every professional club has some kind of a list with potential targets for all 11 positions in the team. The club works constantly with updating that list with new targets based on both ability and availability. When approaching a transfer window the focus is then more on checking the availability of the different targets based on which positions the manager needs reinforcements in. New targets can of course suddenly pop up and result in a change to the club's priority list.
It's obvious to me that the more knowledgeable and well connected people that are involved in this scouting and hiring process the better the changes are of getting some real gems within the club's budget. I really can't see any negatives in this set up. Of course, if one of the people within the club goes on a solo raid a signs players on his own without consulting any others then that would be bad but then again I don't think he would have had the role much longer. Signing players is all about team work.

I think a lot of us are worried about Karanka being undermined but as you say it could be a good thing, this is how modern football works (for better or worse) and having a structure is a new thing at NFFC.

Good points, I accept my contribution about his son being a jailbird and being gunned down wasn't the most positive, I blame Wikipedia
I guess the timing is a concern.
Assuming his job is to go out and sign £19m players and eventually sell them on for £35m … I think we should maybe give him a go

Wasn't trying to have a go at anyone btw, just a symptom of how the club has been managed in the past 5 years or even longer I suppose that we've trained ourselves to assume the worst and find the negatives in situations before even looking for positives.

Your right I think I’m that used to disappointment I tend to be a bit negative sometimes.Hope your right and it will all turn out to benefit the club.
