So currently:

Muric
Darikwa Dawson Milo Robinson
Yates Silva
Lolley carvalho cash (?)
Grabban

Or

Muric
Darikwa Dawson Milo Robinson
Silva Yates carvalho
Lolley grabban ameobi

Not sure how you fit Carv in a 433, I’d be worried he’d be a bit deep

Unless Lamouchi is some Billy Davies-esq genius, that looks a mid-table side at best.

That defence looks pretty wobbly

Think we’re we’ll set in defence actually, got tons of options at centre back, at least one good left back (and a backup) just need a right back now

Apart from Milo I think everyone else is either hit or miss, or injury prone.

RE: Our Starting X1 2019/20 - GaribaldiRED - 18-07-2019

Any suggestions regarding a starting 11 should begin with a clear understanding of how the manager would like to play.

It seems like Sari prefers his team to play either a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation. Within this formation he likes his team to be compact and structured when defending and to keep possession with quick and crisp passing when attacking. I believe the main aim is to overload one side of the pitch to quickly switch play to the other side and then attack with pace and precision. Intense pressure high up the pitch when losing the ball will also be a main feature. In general, we should be looking for players with good technical ability and football intelligence as well great fitness and stamina. Pace is always important in the final third and also from the FBs.

One comment here regarding the game against Oly on Tuesday. I don't necessarily agree that there was a big gap in ability between the two sets of players. I believe that the main difference on the day was that Forest allowed the Oly players to have far too much time on the ball to pick out passes combined with their players being allowed to run into open spaces unmarked. Furthermore, when Forest had the ball they were quickly closed down and passing options were quickly blocked (their pressing was well timed and coordinated). It was obvious that Oly were ahead of Forest when it came to match fitness and sharpness. We must hope that Sari will be able to rectify this and that we will be able to play with the right degree of intensity, movement and purpose when we face West Brom in the first game of the season. If that is not the case, then Forest will definitely struggle for points and Sari will most likely be looking for new employment before the end of the year.

To make this system work you will of course have to have players with specific key attributes. I will start with the keeper.

Keeper:
A system that favors possession and playing out from the back as well as attacking quickly when possible will always want to have a keeper that is comfortable with the ball at his feet and also be great at distributing the ball. It is safe to say that Pantilimon doesn't have neither of these attributes. That is the reason why I'm certain that Sari will give Muric more than one shot at proving he can be the number one choice. According to reports, Muric is very much a modern-day keeper that is excellent at distributing the ball. That is the reason why I believe Muric will be the preferred goal keeper for Forest this season. If we end up with Patillimon in goal, then I will be very surprised as this will definitely limit our ability to play the way I suspect that we want to.

As long as Muric doesn’t repeat his error which led to the corner & first goal.

RE: Our Starting X1 2019/20 - GaribaldiRED - 18-07-2019

Agree, but you can't blame him for the team not being able to defend the corner. The goal scorer Masouras was completely unmarked.

I would also go with Muric. I will not judge him on 45 minutes of a friendly.

Too many costly errors and some dreadful distribution over the course of last season from Pantilimon.

1. Muric.

Center Backs:
The CBs must be able to keep possession of the ball and also have the potential to bringing the ball out of defense or pass it up the field with accuracy. I believe Milosevic is the CB with the best overall technical ability currently at the club and he would clearly be my first choice.

It is more difficult to find the perfect partner to Milo but on current showing I would prefer to pair him with Worrall as I believe he has the biggest potential of the remaining four CBs. I know that he got some stick from the Rangers fans due to one or two errors that ended with a goal but even so, he must have done something right for Gerrard wanting to keep him there when O'Neill tried to get him back in January. I haven't seen any of the games he played up in Scotland but we all know how emotional fans can be and it probably wasn't too clever for Worrall to state that he wouldn't consider staying on at Rangers beyond the loan deal. There should be no doubt that the kid has lots of potential.

Figueiredo could of course challenge Worral for a starting spot but to me he seems a bit hesitant and clumsy after coming back from his injury. Not at all the Figueiredo we saw when he first came on loan. Benalouane is just too wild and crazy for my liking and Dawson is unfortunately past it. It would be great if Dawson still had the ability to be the dependable defender and great leader on the pitch but I'm afraid that is no longer the case. Daws is however great to have in the squad.

For me it is Milosevic and Worrall as the CB pairing. But it would be great if Forest could get hold of a young and hungry CB with lots of potential and with some real PACE.

Think we'll struggle with this team.

My center back pairing would be Milosevic and Figueiredo.

Both of them are decent passes of a football, they are not the quickest but to be fair we don't have that option at CB at this moment in time. Both good enough in the air too in my opinion and they both seem to have a decent temprament.

Both good solid Championship defenders who can be relied upon to get the job done.

RE: Our Starting X1 2019/20 - ThePromisedLand - 18-07-2019

Anyone but Worrall! He’s shown absolutely no improvement and his preponderance to make at least 1 basic howler in every game rules him out - for me he is way below championship standard.
Sorry if that offends anyone - but if he wasn’t an academy graduate I think we’d be getting rid.
I’d agree with Sniffer - Milo & Figs for me.

RE: Our Starting X1 2019/20 - GaribaldiRED - 18-07-2019

If we could have the Figueiredo from a year ago back then I wouldn't necessarily disagree but still Worrall for me.

RE: Our Starting X1 2019/20 - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 18-07-2019

I can't see any reason why Figueiredo cannot get back to his best. He has had a full pre-season and he should be over his injury problem now.

RE: Our Starting X1 2019/20 - GaribaldiRED - 18-07-2019

You are right SD, a full pre-season will probably set him straight. I'm probably a bit colored by his horrific error on Tuesday.
