RE: Is our Squad Stronger Or Weaker Than Last Season - Username - 02-08-2019 Is Guedioura still here? RE: Is our Squad Stronger Or Weaker Than Last Season - Alf - 02-08-2019 Better balanced, but weaker overall. Colback is a big miss, and the frontline was weak to begin with. Losing Ansarifard & Walker has only weakened it further. Darikwa's injury doesn't help either. See where we are in a week. I very much doubt we've let some of these players go without being confident of signings coming in to replace them. You forgot to mention that we have signed Mir and Ameobi to replace Ansarifard and Walker. I would say that strengthens how strike force not weakens it. Some statto could probably tell us.(02-08-2019, 06:23 PM)Alf Wrote: Better balanced, but weaker overall. Ameobi is no more of a striker than Soudani was mate. An absolute last resort cover option, or someone to play there for the last 10-15 with the mindset of not conceeding and adding uppredictability to keep the opposition on the backfoot. Forgot about Mir though so yeah fair enough there. But lets not forget that Murphy is also a year older too, and whereas before he was in the mindset of having a role here, now he'll be very much looking elsewhere. Overall you're probably right actually, it's much of a muchness compared to last year. But last year's frontline was wafer thing too, so we definitely need another forward. RE: Is our Squad Stronger Or Weaker Than Last Season - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 03-08-2019 Just my opinion but I think we place too much emphasis on a main striker. For mee it's more about the front 3 as a whole and with the signings of Adomah, Ameobi and Mir to go alongside Lolley and Grabban who were already here I believe that we are stronger up top this season. Not forgetting Appiah who is not too far away now. If Ameobi is our back up I can see another mid table finish. Every team promoted has a 20 goal a season striker. RE: Is our Squad Stronger Or Weaker Than Last Season - Salvatore Matrecano - 03-08-2019 Last seasons stats, league goals Grabban 16 Lolley 11 Ameobi 4 Adomah 4 Mir 7 (spanish 2nd div) If Grabban or Lolley get an injury I think we are in deep sxxx. I agree Ameobi is definitely not a striker, think we need one more option otherwise we are relying on Mir to deliver which is a big unknown. I suppose a front 3 (which is the system we have been using) does put an emphasis on all three to score goals. Mir may turn out to be a very good signing, if Grabban picks up an injury I won't panic too much. I would also add that in the last third of last season Grabban looked poor and on that form he wouldn't be missed greatly in my book. Having said that it would be great if Grabban shows his early form of last season when he was scoring for fun and he manages to stay fit for the whole season (big ask). RE: Is our Squad Stronger Or Weaker Than Last Season - Superreddamo - 03-08-2019 I think we do need another central striker. Whether to be back up in case Grabban gets injured or to hold the ball up for the last 15-20 mins in a tight game. RE: Is our Squad Stronger Or Weaker Than Last Season - Madforit - 03-08-2019 I also happen to think that the club needs to bring in another striker every one could see that we simply don't score enough goals. And if you want promotion you need to score goals and that's something we simply don't do. |
