I remember when he scored the winner against Tottenham at home. I flew in from America for the game (yes I know, I was mad) and he made the trip and expense worth every penny. Sales, injuries and a declining manager mea t the fine margins early always went the other way.(25-03-2020, 03:34 PM)zicorice Wrote:(25-03-2020, 03:21 PM)Strawberry Avenger Wrote:To be fair our centre half situation played a big part. Walker gone, natural replacement Wassall jumped ship. Tiler not really up to it. Keane and Clough at CB at some points in season. Pearce, Wilson and Chett spent long periods injured. Mind you a front 2 at QPR in April of Bannister and Rosario and we lost 4-3. Started season with Clough and Sheringham up front! So yeah Stan would have made a big difference.(25-03-2020, 03:19 PM)zicorice Wrote:(25-03-2020, 03:03 PM)Strawberry Avenger Wrote: Nigel had a better football brain and had less physical attributes than Stan. Despite that, Nigel defied time and space to be as good as he was for the Silver Generation. RE: Our Best Ever Striker - JC21 - 25-03-2020 It's got to be PVH, no others went on strike!!!! RE: Our Best Ever Striker - Ciscokid - 25-03-2020 None of us would support PVHs striking but it was his protest at the destruction of the promotion side. I've always thought that the behaviour of the Club was every bit as bad as the strikers. Not Bassett's fault I think but the episode must go down as the darkest chapter in our history. By the way PVH was a terrific striker maybe not quite as good as SVC but not too far away. Joe Baker no.1 for me. RE: Our Best Ever Striker - JC21 - 25-03-2020 On a serious not, SVC for me all day long RE: Our Best Ever Striker - ozzyten10 - 25-03-2020 Stanley for me but woodcock a close second but always thought of him as a number 10. RE: Our Best Ever Striker - ozzyten10 - 25-03-2020 Nigel has to have a mention too as well as Sheringham RE: Our Best Ever Striker - Tricky - 25-03-2020 Although neither could be classed as our best ever strikers, I do feel special mentions should be made to David Johnson and Robert Earnshaw as well RE: Our Best Ever Striker - Jasper Scarrott - 26-03-2020 (25-03-2020, 09:20 AM)Sniffer Dog Wrote:(24-03-2020, 09:05 PM)Username Wrote:(24-03-2020, 03:24 PM)Sniffer Dog Wrote: Was Collymore's all round game better than Nigel Clough's? I have also gone for our number 9 but it was a tough call. PVH's actions were symptomatic of the charade of management that what was going on behind the scenes at the time. I too don't blame Bassett. He performed brilliantly in those circumstances. RE: Our Best Ever Striker - Strawberry Avenger - 30-03-2020 Tony Woodcock doesn't get a single vote. I wanted to split my vote between Birtles and Woodcock. SA. |
