Serious question Widdow, I am not trying to be funny mate.

When Sabri left who would you have gone for instead of CH?

RE: So Where Will We Finish This Season ? - Widdow - 08-05-2021

At the time, I said Eddie Howe.

Just think with a full season he could take us down.

My immediate thought reading this post was "tw@t", then I just assumed it was a wind up.

Apologies if anyone is offended by the language.

None taken here buddy. I am a firm believer of speaking your mind and if Twat was on your mind, then by all means say it  :D

Yeah, that’s what I think whenever I see your Unconstructive posts. I put my neck on line, maybe negative, but to me realistic and as I always say I hate to be proven right. The club finished where I predicted (and continued to predict). I didn’t want to end up where we did, but it’s reality.

What did you vote for?

No, i don’t think he will take us down, as I don’t think he will last season.

Any one want a bet CH will get Forest promoted next season?

I really enjoy Zicorice post match analysis. Uses manages to find some positives even in the grimmest performance.

Put your neck on the line? What's going happen if you're wrong, not like you're getting barred from the forum if you are so don't try and sell it like you're taking a huge risk or something.

I honestly think unless we were top of the league you'd be unhappy. Or maybe unless he signed Mowatt  :D

Well Mowatt was classed as useless as he plays for Barnsley. I wonder what happened to them and how bad a season mowatt had. That’s the sort of responses I get from the likes of you and zicorice. Love your red coloured lenses, but you don’t make good player judges.

Think he will be beyond us now.

Already said, let’s have a bet, sever costs, I don’t think ch will get us promoted next season, even with his unbelievable track record.

And I would be happy, if we played nicer attacking football, giving it a go. Not relying on players on their last contract. Young and hungry players who put in a shift playing to a plan to put the opposition on the back foot. I can buy into that, I can get behind it and happy to give managers time to get it right if the signs on the pitch look good and the manager can get the best out of the squad he has.

Not sure I have seen that this season, dour performances, unmotivated players and a lack of desire to win.

I keep talking about statistics of 29% win rate, that is based on actual results. Not a stat it’s an outcome.
We finished a poor 17th. Top goal scorer 6 goals. Second top scorer was own goals. Overall goals.

I had a thread last season saying we needed more goals, pace and creativity, we didn’t get that. Will we this summer?

I didn't vote I don't think, can't remember why, just lazy.

Probably harsh (and "unconstructive") my earlier post, so again apologies for any offence caused by implying your post was composed by a tw@t, Completely over the top response and possibly in contravention of forum rules, regardless of how unsupportive, negative, unbalanced, tw@tish and "unconstructive" I might find your general viewpoint, it is your opinion and you are entitled to it without almost being called a tw@t.

Ultimately, you were closer to being correct than most who voted in hope (rather than expectation probably) so well done. 17th is a pretty poor return, the season has been mostly dire and despite the way it appears in your posts to the contrary, it is good that you "hate to be proven right".

I will continue to try to present a balanced view and thanks Wassy04 for your positive feedback. You are the Ying to Widdows Yang. Admittedly, some games the positives column has been hard to fill and a bit tongue in cheek.

The biggest positive to take into next season for me, is the calibre of the man in the managers seat. Well, that and the hope we can get together with our friends prematch again.

Have a nice summer all, enjoy the cricket.

I don't actually think we'll go up either, I think we have a really average team and have a massive systemic disadvantage due to parachute payments. It would be a massive jump from 17th to promotion. I do however think we have more chance with CH than once again sacking another manager.

So are you going to payt for these young and hungry players? Because they all come with fees? The reason we sign older players is because they're free and cheap because we make losses of 30m every year. I don't disagree that we could use our budget better though obviously.

You realise we're not scouts or have any influence on player signings right? I also don't watch Barnsley games so have seen mowatt play a handful of times at best and he didn't play well in those games. If he is supposedly their best player why would they just sell him to us for cheap? Answer, they wouldn't.

The only influence we can have is to offer support, particularly when things are going badly. Players don't get inspired by booing and the like, they get inspired by support. If us offering positivity persuades some fans to also show support then it might help the team through the harder runs of form which will inevitably happen because that's how sport works.

Apologies for using you as an example, but Uwantlee would regularly just come on to moan about how bad we were and sack the manager etc every time we lost. However I feel thanks to a number of posters offering constructive viewpoints, he now chooses to be more circumspect and take a longer term view. Shows the influence positivity can have on people.

Anyway mate, cheer up seasons over. Hughton is going nowhere by the looks of it. See you next season at the CG!

Fortunately some of the other contenders have started slowly too. Depends how quickly Hughton can find his best set-up + luck with injuries.

Play-off party minimum!

I am smiling at the two posts above because both have been 2 of our biggest critics this season but both voted for play offs.

Not signalling you out, it's just a bit of fun.

Ah, happy days! In fairness that's consistent with my criticism of Hughton, that we have underperformed given the squad he has had. As well as the usual optimism I based part of my projection on what people were saying about our signings who I didn't know, they didn't live up to all that, but even adjusting with hindsight I think we're comfortably top half. I'll refer to my recent posts about the likes of QPR in 9th, and just go down the table and look at the ability that each of the clubs have at their disposal.

Back to expectations, once I saw what Hughton was doing I twigged very early on that our season was a write-off under his approach, and why I blame him for our poor results (+ performances). Here are my posts from his early matches. I reset my expectations early on, and they were right.

Eh?!

I’m not pessimistic and I didn’t suggest the season has disaster written all over it. Indeed I think we have a promotion quality squad, that’s why I’m so frustrated we needlessly dropped the 2 points in an easy match.
Easy match ?? That’s being disrespectful to Rotherham . They played very well and matched Forest for long periods . The effort their whole team put in was a credit to the manager and his team . We have no divine right to win football matches and although we should have won with the chances we created in the final 20 mins we have to give CH time to access his team and get them how he wants to play .

Yes, an easy match. It's not disrespectful, it's simply true. Look at their players, their results. They're an easy fixture!

Nowhere have I said we have a divine right to win a match. I said we have much better players than them. That's a fact, and that combined with how the players actually performed is why we should have won it. They didn't have quality, just energy. They put bodies in midfield and ran around a lot and we should have had the quality and nous to beat it.

I also said that I'm not going to have a go at the manager cos he's new.

You might want happy vibes, not like to hear the criticism, but its fair comment.

What did we do against Rotherham? Stick with a formation that wasn't working against a shite team, then wait over an hour with us behind to change it. I called it Groundhog Day. Well, good morning Punxsutawney.

We try a formation that isn't working, and only when we are behind at half time do we make the change which looks like it was forced by injury. But then that is the only one! Absolutely f***ing staggering that we let Derby make subs and take the initiative, while we leave Freeman & Mighten on the bench.

On this match alone it was a mind boggling decision. But in this season, in the 3rd match in a week, of 7 matches in 22 days? WTF is the manager thinking?!

I could understand that under Sabri, because we'd 1 recognised striker, and if anything happened to him we were screwed. So making defending a priority made sense. We also had Cash & Ribero, so driving from the back made sense too.

Now however, we've 2 15+ goal strikers, another workhorse striker as backup & to compliment, and enough wingers to rotate semi-regularly too. We also don't have fullbacks the of the quality we had last year. So it seems strange to adopt a similar approach.

We really need to get at Cov & Wycombe from the off.

Yeah, I agree. I’ve criticised his decisions each match. We needed someone who is going to get us playing football and attacking. I’d love to see high energy and rotating wingers but the only player with pace is Mighten and he isn’t getting a sniff.

I’d caveat that with us seemingly missing the no 8 who can link play to the attackers. We lost Silva but don’t have a better replacement. I guess Arter is the closest we have but assume he’s injured.

That said I fear Hughton is part of the problem not solving it. Unfortunately I think we’ve hired the wrong guy.
