This is 'last chance saloon' with Carvalho.  Hughton's a fairly honest manager and will give him it straight.  You have to work hard for the team, track back, challenge for the ball etc.  It's a 'team thing.'

I have noted Car's involvement in pre-season as Hughton runs the slide rule over all the returning loan players.  Car's had some moments of typical skill which he is capable of.  But there have been the same moments of frustration re: the basics.  If any manager can get a 'tune' out this player, it's Hughton.

The no.10 position could very much do with bringing in a player with energy, guile and can impose themselves on the game.  And hold the ball up...and bang in the odd goal.  Forest just didn't have that last season.  And it showed.  Krov' helped knit midfield to attack.  But it looks like the goal return wasn't enough for Forest to pursue a return seriously.

It will be interesting to see the line up vs Coventry.

SA.

^ can't argue with that SA ^

part of my reasoning is we were totally predictable with the line ups last season which really makes opponents jobs much easier

there needs to be far more variety in approach, especially games we are expected to win, i don't really like treating strugglers like they are superior

another reason is we ain't really got outstanding players at lb or rb but maybe a far better than average midfield, especially with my cunning plan of playing the lot, zippy attacking orientated players with a modicom of muscle backing them up

either way if hughton wants to fail boring us all to death and setting up for a nil nil it will only be a matter of time, i was trying to be polite but some people on here still think CH is some sort of messiah when many of us think he's due for the knackers yard a spent force, dog meat, he'll go the same as sabri, 1 trick pony with noone listening to him anymore, oh yeh and his cautious cowardly approach needs to be binned

I never thought of your posts having reasoning.  Just irrational emotion devoid of facts.

SA.

i wish the whole football industry could reset itself to being about being captivating, addictive, enthralling, fun and exciting

failing that i wish Forest could relaunch itself as being purely about entertainment and value underpinned with footballing principles and commitment to brightening up peoples dreary lives

yes this whole thing about NFFC is or should be about emotion

the money sort of ruins much of the ethics

but Hughton if nothing else won all the accolades across the board last season for being the most boring, predictable cautious, even cowardly manager and  unfortunately this isn't purely emotion speaking

Sunday new season, another opportunity to put things right, to Hughton this means riding his luck and nicking a 0.1

Psycho,

Hughton had to play the football to guide forest to safety.  Playing like Warburton would have sent Forest down.  And he knew it.  There aren't many who said it was enthralling.  Forest were 9 points off getting relegated.  You can't hang him for last Summer's recruitment.  You can say 'boring' all you like.  But Sabri was boring.  Most of the managers of the last 20 years have been 'boring.'  So?  Do you watch Quest highlights?  The most exciting stuff seems to happen in Division 3 where the football is very agricultural.  Old romance English football.  But you're not going to win the Euros or the World Cup playing that way.

Did you ever see that episode of the Simpsons where they took the pish out of the World Cup as being boring?  ie.  'Soccer' (don't you just hate it when Americans call the game that?) is boring.  To them.

And it might be.  Unless you can play sexy like the Italians can.  Or you're well run like Norwich.  Or had a game plan like Barnie had last season...?  The sooner Forest execute a game plan by being well run off the field then on the field success will follow.

I'd be happy if the league went bankrupt and just played their Academy kids.  For a complete and total recall reset of the Greed Game.  Which it has now become.

Winning football is exciting.  Expect Forest to be solid at the back and clinical in dispatch going forwards IF Forest can contrive to recruit well.

Well unless I have missed something, it looks like our starting line up will be as predictrd above (which one who knows?).

I'm really looking forward to watching a team that is likely to involve plenty of our own. Worrall, Gabriel, Mighten,  Johnson and Yates could potentially all start.

Praying Lolley, Colback and Grabban/Taylor find previous form and we should be OK.

I know I keep saying it, but has the feel of Paul Harts first season. Hopefully most people are 100% behind them and buzzing to get back behind  as I am.

Yep, I kinda know what you're feeling. On paper it looks like we're weaker but I've got a feeling something is building in the squad. Johnson and Lolley could be massive for us. And dare I say it, maybe CH might like the look of Carvalho.

Amen to that.  5 academy products backed by experience elsewhere in the team in Grabban, Lolley, Colback and Samba.

Pre-season reports seem to have Colback looking more like his old self along with Master Lolley. Even Car' has had the 'slide' rule by Hughton in pre-season. We have the enigmatic Fornah who is waiting in the wings to get his debut. And Mighten and Johnson have been in menacing form. I await their debut as a duet with great interest.

We've actually had some form of pre-season this year with a group of players that actually know one another.

I think the team looks stronger than last year. You have a fit and ready to go CH pairing of Worrall/Mckenna. The best CH pairing in the division. Samba. One of the best keepers behind them. SoH is a strong young prospect you can be played at LB. Gabriel, an intriguing young rookie at RB (another academy product...). The developing Yates in midfield with a returning to his best Colback. (Yes please to those two in the centre of the park.). A choice of Brennan or Car' at no.10 and a 'fit again' Grabban along with Lolley (Fit again) and Mighten on the wings to terrify defences.

But if the new CEO says we need to bring in '9' then I can see why. That strong 1st eleven won't weather an entire year in the Championship without injuries or tiring. And the ambition is to get top 6. So I'll presume they'll recruit accordingly.

Could Yates be our suprise LB against Cov?
Good tackler, good engine, big, wont be fazed, good attitude

I hope not- he doesnt need the flack...

I know he's played RB in his youth career but as we've said before LB is a specialist position and increasingly important in modern football

I'd rather have Colback LB as at least he has experience of it- or Soh or Richardson

One thing we know- he'd do his best

RE: Coventry City - Nottingham Forest - Fumanchew - 06-08-2021

Just wanna say, I researched for another thread some time last year but Colback hasn’t played or maybe started a game at LB for about 5 years now.

RE: Coventry City - Nottingham Forest - Strawberry Avenger - 06-08-2021

It will probably be Soh at LB. He, apparently, put in a solid defensive display there.

RE: Coventry City - Nottingham Forest - Fumanchew - 06-08-2021

I’d prefer Soh who has played a lot of minutes in first team pre-season games (and hopefully the behind closed doors training match) instead of bong who as played some U23 friendly games and 40 mins of one first team pre-season game. So we won’t be overlapping in the left and crossing from the left but at least you hope he’ll be a brick wall whilst defending!

RE: Coventry City - Nottingham Forest - ozzyten10 - 06-08-2021

He actually went on a couple of runs and did a sublime turn. Just very right footed!

RE: Coventry City - Nottingham Forest - Marinakis Red - 06-08-2021

One thing to consider for Sunday, those who have had to isolate may not be available for selection on Sunday with no training for 10 days. Any idea who they might be?

RE: Coventry City - Nottingham Forest - Fumanchew - 06-08-2021

Maybe you’d hope that they’d have personal gym equipment to keep that kinda fitness going if isolating, the ones with covid maybe the only ones who you wouldn’t want doing any physical activity (unless that’s who you meant in your post!) I think the game plan would be straight forward for Sunday for the predicted members of the 11 to execute?
