The land the flats will sit on is eminently developable as residential. The whole area around there needs regenerating and the first phase was the conversion of the council offices to flats. Now it's happened it's created an extremely desirable location looking out onto the river and Trent Bridge, which is a short walk or ride from the emerging south side of the city. The planners know the importance of the site and the club know it. What the club is doing is using their offer to invest & build the new stand, which will have city wide community as well as football club benefit and as such be well received, as a lever to get something a bit more out of the planners on the adjacent land. Its an ages old ploy of property developers when they put schemes together. We'll give you x if you give us permission for y. Or if you want us to do that, we need to do this.
As I said earlier, the stand could be built without the flats being tagged onto the planning application but if they did that then they'd lose leverage with the planners and no doubt only be permitted to develop a lesser scheme. Certainly not a 14 storey tower I would suggest.
As for delays, despite covid issues, planning permissions are being approved at the moment. I suspect the delay is that the council have asked the club and the boat club to agree on a scheme that suits both and either the club is assessing matters or they're awaiting the boat club to be able to meet and resolve their position.

All I was implying is that once the stand is definitely being built I will be convinced of EM’s commitment.
Until now - whilst obviously crediting the improved state of the club - he has not fulfilled his initial goals and has made questionable short term decisions that have hampered progress and put unrealistic demands on coaches.
The stand development will mean that he is committed to the long term as not part of FFP and in the long term interests of the club. It will go some way to restoring faith that indeed we have a good custodian of the club.

i think the potential is to strengthen the relationship with fanbase, as opposed to every football club having to go to them with a begging bowl maybe quite soon, layout a fundraiser whether a new stand, club shop, training facilities or even an NFFC hotel and casino and get the fans involved, in some way, fans who want to be in something that gives an opportunity to invest and feel more part of things, if we have owners who are good with seeing an investment potential and realising it, get the fans involved maybe sooner rather than later. The default is the fans get consulted and involved, we all know that there is going to be shockwaves and huge financial black holes appearing. No need to keep up the information blackout, where we all pretend we have an owner that is always 2 or 3 steps ahead of the game and everything is rosy in the garden. Assuming the owners have managed to buy the land and quite a bit in the vicinity is a massive positive .. but the potential needs to be realised.

Construction continued pretty much normally and planning applications were still being processed.

Yes but we were not in a position to start constructing. Things that needed to be done before then couldn't be done. Not easy trying to work your way through a huge process when half of the process is shut down.

Probably true however surely we should be pushing now given the lack of fans this season. Surely too good an opportunity timing wise
