RE: What’s Gone Wrong? - the jock - 11-04-2019 Karanka should have known we needed better than murphy as a sub so instead he brought in the 3 portuguese and soudani. it was a big mistake. RE: What’s Gone Wrong? - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 11-04-2019 This is what is wrong with Nottingham Forest Football Club, in my opinion of course. Owners: Evangelos Marinakis and Sokratis Kominakis. COE: Ioannis Vrentzos. Director of Football: Kyriakos Dourekas. Head of Football Operations: Michael Anagnostou. Now, how many of the above mentioned people have any experience of English Football or Championship Football? Answer: None. Moving further down the chain. Chairman: Nicholas Randall. Director: Johnny Owen. No disrespect intended here but neither of them really have any idea about English Football or Championship Football either. Is it only me who thinks that this is a problem? In my opinion we badly need some experienced people with a background of English Football in some of those positions that I have mentioned above. Until that happens I am not convinced that this club will get back to where it should be, in the PL. According to transfermarkt - just at Nottingham Forest Aitor Karanka ppm = 1.33 Martin O Neill ppm = 1.29 So Aitor slightly ahead RE: What’s Gone Wrong? - PsychoStooge - 11-04-2019 I agree Sniffer but not even just a knowledge of English football. A knowledge of how modern football works at all. That's why I'd love to see Karembeu join in a director role this summer. judging by Dourekas' job descriptions from the article when he was hired he's not what you'd call a traditional Director of Football in terms of developing a footballing strategy and directing recruitment of players and coaches to fulfil that strategy... That, I believe, is what we need. Plus you have to bare in mind the squad Karanka inherited vs the one MON did. Nobody is saying this current squad should be walking into the top six, but it's a lot better than what Karanka inherited. I'd be interested to know the difference in PPG and win% just based on this season. First Team: Management and HR of the first team staff. Liaison between the CEO and the first team staff and players. Responsible for the daily operations of the first team department. I believe Dourekas was more of a liaison manager/ fixer at Olympiacos e.g. the kind of stuff he's doing with the first team here? Certainly not somebody who should be developing any kind of footballing strategy. Sounds like he was put in place at Forest as more a day to day pair of eyes for Marinakis. RE: What’s Gone Wrong? - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 11-04-2019 Looking at the job discription of Dourekas it is not difficult to see why Karanka went ballistic. You made a good shout with Karembeu but I don't think he will come. We may get Modesto instead, infact he already spends a lot of time in Nottingham but he is another one to add to the long list of people at our club who know bogger all about English Football. Modesto would be alright though Sniffer because he at least knows the game, he played it to a high level and in modern times not 40-50 years ago, we have nothing like that behind the scenes at the moment. If he can come in and work with a head coach who has had experience of the Championship in recent seasons i.e. Wagner, Jokanovic, Carvalhal etc. and they work together to develop an ethos and a strategy at the club then we could be onto a winner. I genuinely believe something like that will be needed to take the club forward. It has to be a permanent fixture though, can't be going backwards and forwards between the two clubs. RE: What’s Gone Wrong? - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 11-04-2019 True mate. At least he has played the game unlike all the other names previously mentioned. I hope you are right. However, I would still prefer a British influence somewhere in the structure, not only British but British and actually played the game in England. Don't mean that to sound racisit in any way before anyone starts. We had Dowling and Metgod at one point but they soon boggered off which I find slightly worrying to be honest. I suspect that the Greek influence was too much for them and they couldn't make themselves heard. Smoking gun. There's our answer. That's 'What's Gone Wrong?' SA. RE: What’s Gone Wrong? - Strawberry Avenger - 11-04-2019 (11-04-2019, 03:54 PM)Sniffer Dog Wrote: True mate. At least he has played the game unlike all the other names previously mentioned. I hope you are right. It's not racism. It's not skin colour. It's culture. If the English culture in an English league isn't represented then this season's results are predictable. The Greek owners can't just 'cookie cutter' the solutions from Greece to here. Different culture. Sure. Run the club professionally for starters. Do better business. Put an actual infrastructure in place to run the club professionally instead of a dysfunctional corner shop. Warnock hinted at this when he turned down the Forest job. He didn't have anyone 'English' to go to who understood him. But Fawaz knew better and we're still in this league. Just like all the fans who wanted all the previous managers sacked knew better and we're still in this league. Ships sink from the top. The current leadership (which has been quite superb in many, many ways off the field...) are just as culpable as Aitor for the current situation. It's almost a mirror image of last season at this point. Though Martin has actually won games at this point of the season compared to the slide under Aitor with ten signings (thought I understand why Aitor didn't the results is the same reason MoN isn't in the top 6 with Aitor's side.) Until the leadership accepts it's part in the current malaise, the cycle of destruction will continue on the field. They appointmented Mark, Aitor and Martin. For god's sake. Let someone stick his contract out. Comparisons to Steve Bruce and Sheffield Wednesday are mute. They have more in common with Aitor's Boro' when he took them over. They were under performing and had been in the play offs relatively recently. Forest have been skirting with relegation for at least 3 seasons before this one. You can't keep sacking managers half way through a job when they are 7th in the league. Much to learn about this league, Marinakis has. SA. |
