Believe it or not for once I agree with you Wassy! Yes, you add in Lolley and Colback, if we could loan Garner again and make Krov a perm then it leaves 2 full backs and a striker to find. Suddenly thats not a massive overhaul and I think you have a competitive team.
A few curve balls to throw in the mix though. First and most importantly you assume we stay up, I think we will.
Next is departures, realistically Worrall will go in the summer, possibly Figs will return home too?
The final big decision is Knockaert, how big a fee would we be willing to spend on him? I genuinely thought he was excellent yesterday, MOM by a mile for me, fantastic work rate. But he will be 30 in November and Fulham will a fair bit of their £10M fee back.

I just think we need to spend some real money and get better then a ‘decent’ championship RB. And maybe have a look at a LB it’s no secret that both Ribeiro and Bong are divisive amongst posters on this forum wouldnt it be nice to have a player we all thought was no questions asked no 1 at that position that could defend and attack and cross?
Also on the back of how he’s played the first two games since signing do you see another 6 month contract for Murray?
I hope we could look at Garner again, I worry that he’ll impress immeasurably and the united hierarchy will want to test him at a bottom of the prem or newly promoted side.
I’m not sure what to think when it comes to Krovinovic, was he just not a big sam type player? Next season will be the last year of his contract at Benfica he’ll be 26 this august has his hopes of being a first-teamer there gone? What do they do? Try and sell him this summer? Give him another 6 months somewhere and sell him in jan or offer a 3 years contract and tell him to try and establish himself?

Things don't seem too bad from where I am sitting.
Honestly I wouldn't be against Murray getting another 12 months.
I remember Kevin Phillips ripping us a new one when he played for Derby aged about 40, also Dean Windass did well at Hull when he was about 40 too. If these type of players look after their bodies they can still help out and do a job in the Championship.

Yeah I meant loan him, given he didn't play at Watford I'd be surprised if he was suddenly starting for a lower prem team.
Would make way more sense for all parties of he is successful here for him to continue somewhere that he is settled and has the support of the manager. For Utd they can be confident he'd start which is less certain elsewhere. Would be a no brained for all parties in that case.
However we are slightly getting ahead of ourselves, he's only played two games!
I would sign Knockaert on a permanent deal although if Fulham are relegated they might want him again

He did play at Watford Ivic loved him. If Ivic hadn't got the sack then Garner wouldn't be here now.

This is where we have to be patient with the lad. Remember Kieran Dowell? He was really setting places alight in his early days with us, but then he started getting cocky and his form suffered as a result.

I have seen what people who have worked with Garner at Man. United have said about him. I think he's the real deal but we'll see.

A guy who reports on the Man Utd academy and U23 sides, said last week that apart from Greenwood, that Garner is the most talented he has seen come through in the 7 yrs he had reported on them.
He even included Rashford in that assessment.
That’s a pretty big recommendation given the quality they have running through their youth ranks.

An in form Colback and Lolley would add to that too?
I think on reasonable form that team isnt far off. Clearly the RB situation would need sorting - Christie on a permanent would do me. After a few awful games early on he has settled down and been a decent Championship RB.
If more go out the door (Arter especially) and CH gets one or two in (who knows a year deal for Murray might be what people are clamouring for if he gets 6 or 7 more goals this season) that's a team that could challenge.
As always luck with injuries and players getting in a good rhythm matters.
However, the biggest factor is Hughton getting the culture he wants embedded. Sounds like he is on his way with that.

Sorry I completely disagree. The squad have already proven they are not good enough up until this point, feels like your strategy is just willing players to improve.
The three loan players in midfield have already shown how much we were lacking there. (Admittedly against weak opposition)
I'm not saying we need a huge overhaul though, bringing back the loan players would be my strategy.

Bringing back the loan players doesn't constitute a big overhaul either does it?
There are many reasons why this season has been disappointing. One is the loss of form of a number of players. Samba, Figs, Ribeiro, Lolley and Grabban. That's 5 of last seasons starting XI. Of course there are other factors (Cash/Watson, no preseason, 150 new players), but 4 of those 5 are still in their prime so it is reasonable to assume that there is every chance they will pick up again. Form is temporary after all.
I get that in this day and age of instant expectations, comments like he is finished or his legs are gone or he should be gone will appear on social media when someone has few under par games, but every time a player loses form, we cant go out and sign a new player. Equally, to have so many drop off at the same time was a nightmare in the early months of this season from which we are still trying to recover.
I would bring back 4 of the loan players IF the terms work for us and renew contracts of Sami, Sow (on a low basic, but appearances related) and Murray. That's not an overhaul in my book. Add in a couple more CH signings and we are good to go.
Either way, I support whichever direction Hughton thinks we should go in. Major overhaul, slight freshening up or whatever.
