RE: Match Player Ratings - PsychoStanleyStone - 29-12-2019

wasn't it Yates who put the perfectly weigthed and crafted dink onto Grabbans head for what should of been a certain goal?

How?
Why?
What the hell did he do - other than turn up - to warrant anything near that score?
I’m sorry, I know I have a reputation for having a downer on the lad - but today he was truly abysmal.
Chema & Semedo were poor but - I’m sorry - Yates was, hands down, the worst player on the pitch.

I agree . Was terrible

Yates was completely anonymous today. I can't remember him making a tackle, completing a pass or making a forward run. A very poor performance. That can happen for a forward when they don't get any service but for a player in the middle of the pitch where most of the action is, very unusual. Semedo was not a lot better. His first touch and passing is poor and totally lacks composure when in good positions. The score today was one of the most unfair I have seen for a long time. We were abysmal.

Yates has been poor since his return from suspension. Whilst not writing him off by any means, I do not see what he offers us at the minute. Maybe we shoukd send him on loan to get some form back? I suppose it depends on Sow's fitness.

Carvalho pulls out of every challenge. Ameobi was crap. Yates beaten to every ball .

Woeful to watch. Badly need new signings  . I presume we will send muric mir and bostock back and get 3 new loans

Chema was a 4

We looked leggy and tired. Thought Watson stood out today in midfield, mainly as be had too. Carvalho came alive for one minute before half time creating Grabbans header (not sure how he missed) that was pretty much it. Semedo offered nothing.
Lolley was excellent once he came on.

Samba-faultless.

Samba’s kicking second half was terrible, put the ball straight out of play three times in a row.
But first half he pinged loads inch perfect.

Agree but giving away possession in such piss poor terms, especially at home, is sacrilege.

RE: Match Player Ratings - Strawberry Avenger - 29-12-2019

Yates and Car' are two players we're playing in the absence of more established options. If they have an off game, or are poor following suspension or don't like winter games because it gets dark? Who do we replace them with?

January recruitment?

SA.

RE: Match Player Ratings - ozzyten10 - 30-12-2019

Samba 8.5- great kicking first half- brilliant penno save but distribution second half poor.
Cash 6.5- great endeavour but was well marshalled by their right winger- has improved so much defensively but dived in when last man and if it wasn’t for Lolley putting off the lad would have cost a goal
Chema 7- read comments that he was bad!!! Defensively solid - crunching challenges but limited going forward
Worrall6 - good solid performance but did not play to whistle a couple of times that could have cost us
Figgs 9- brilliant and my MOM. Not just for his goal. Crunching challenges and so solid today. Distribution improving and would have give him a 10 but gave the ball away second half twice.
Watson 6 - not bad but plays too deep- great save!
Yates 4 - poor today but even then nearly got an assist. Seemed to be slow and hesitant a couple of times - maybe his red card has got to him a bit
Carvalho 3- poor. Wigan attacked down whichever flank he went to. Powder puff defensively and looks devoid of any confidence what so ever. I’m sure he was going to be replaced at 35 minutes but Sabri was talked out of it
Ameobi 5- not at his best but we need better
Grabban 7- feeding off scraps - poor miss but defended manfully from the front and unlucky with an audacious chip.
Silva - 6 - great corner for goal
Lolley 7 - great run when game on. Great run to close down player when 1:1. Starved of the ball
Adomah 7- great composure when he came on... put his foot on the ball when we were really under the cosh and changed the tone. Needs a couple of run outs.

RE: Match Player Ratings - zicorice - 30-12-2019

I also thought Figs played well, but he does tend to drop deep and play opposition forwards onside in last 10 mins when under the cosh. Understandable in the circumstances, kind of psychological when tired.

Today was a tactical disaster before a ball was even kicked, the problem is we cannot play like a 'home' side, especially when it is a very under strength starting 11, i think the plan was to push the midfield further up the pitch so we had more territory and possession, it didn't work, players like Yates were more isolated.  He is at his best in a shallow midfield close to the back line with bodies around him and he has confidence to challenge, tackle and block and basically win the ball.

Not sure, but i think Yates was being pushed up field so he was lacking confidence already, he felt isolated and made to look silly with Wigan players just gliding past him, he prefers to be in a more solid unit, hunting in packs.  Even Watson was feeling isolated, gave a free kick away and looked around at his team mates saying why weren't you helping me out.

To put on a comprehensive show at home the team has to be confident and know there jobs and have faith in there team mates, none of this could happen today, the problem is the only way the starting 11 would of felt confident was to play like the 'away' side and have 2 close lines of defence and midfield ... the brick walls, even then they were carrying from the off out of sorts and unfamiliar team mates and players who can't really chase back and tackle

Yates is a good player, particularly as part of 2 brick walls, hunting in packs, winning the ball, carrying the ball, strong in possession, box to box, quick and adequate when upto speed and can run all day ... but slow over short distances and not good when lacking confidence ... most of all .. positionally unsure .. like many today

It's an absolute miracle we won today, so on that basis i will give them all 10 and Brice 11, also Figs and Silva for the assist but even Silva seemed to be too high up the pitch when he came on, after the flurry and goal all the activity was behind him, i'm his biggest fan but he really wasn't in the game after the goal.  I think alot of it is inexperience, lack of confidence built on poor tactical ''play like the home team'' plan with relatively inferior and unfamiliar players so i want to mark Sabri low but as it was a miracle win he gets a 10 as well
