Jenkinson has certainly strengthend our squad, no doubt about that.
For the majority of last season we had only Darikwa. Byram was back at West Ham and only returned for the last few games. So yes, Jenkinson has strengthend our squad compared to last season (As things stand).
Don’t forget Janko, he was last season right? Pretty memorable...

Janko is possibly the worst crosser of a football I have ever seen.

Thoughts so far is that 4-1-4-1 doesn't make best use of the players we have. So far the 4 midfielders have been too deep leaving the sticker isolated. The "out" ball has often been up to lone striker and it doesn't stick, should be aimed at the wingers. I haven't given up on the system yet, as i don't think they are playing to system as the manager wants.
3-5-2
LB/RB Cash and are both very good going forward, using them as extra attackers a real benefit.
CB we have lots
Midfield getting the balance between attack and defence is the tricky bit. Semedo/Bostock look like they can play all round game. Carvalho/Lolley
CF Both Grabban and Mir look like they will be better with more support.
Downside is wastes Ameobi/Adomah
4-2-3-1 (The karanka system)
With decent holding options the key is to get the 3 up the pitch pressing high and joining the attack.
4-4-2
Key is getting the 2 midfielders in the middle right, again Semedo/Bostock/Sow look like they can be box-box
Having 2 attackers (at home) a real chance to score goals.
Overall I think the squad is stronger, but we haven't seen them click yet. I realize its still very early in the season.

certainly plenty of players to choose from, i certainly feel that too many players isn't good, in effect sort of makes us weaker, would prefer 25 player squad, maybe less, academy players also knowing they could get called in to the first team at any moment if there are injuries
the hiring and firing makes the managers situation .. seem .. vulnerable, just seems in the way i feel about things it makes the whole thing weaker, really don't want us to be vulnerable to player power, which really shouldn't be an issue with a huge squad, though it could create cliques and negativity so more liable to mutinies
so yep let's hope come Jan we are competing and the seasons alive and the squad can become leaner and meaner
i think from just being a fan, clubs like Luton can enjoy the season more, bit like the pretty girl v the over made up caked in make up and jewellery and slightly obese girl

Apologies I think I misunderstood the question slightly. I thought it was squad starting the season last year vs squad starting the season this year. (at end of transfer window). I hadn't considered the injuries we had during the season on the basis that we don't know what injuries we might get to test the squad, hence I compared Byram and Jenkinson. Having said all that, I'm still in the don't know bracket....yet.

Think some are making too much of the squad size. It’s not ideal, but Villa had a huge squad last season and went up. It’s not as if all the players are training together.

i agree, me for one, i've changed my mind, i think the squad is big but includes alot of players who could play a significant part in the season, i think a big squad is better than a small squad, alot of the players are young, good blend of experience and youth, quite a few young signings this window and Ameobi is only 27 and Albert good to have in the squad and keep wrapped in cotton wool.
At the end of the day we don't have to worry about the wage bill, collectively the contract lengths are healthy, a few of the signings this window having an eye on the future, alot of the players are on relatively short contracts but gives them an opportunity to get a new deal.
So many players who can put in match winning shifts who haven't even featured this season, got to be a good thing

I was sceptical and upset, caused by the treatment of M o N and R K, sort of getting over it now, my vote was a throwing my toys out my pram vote, really hope it works out for SL and ideally gets success and a longer deal

While I do think the squad is considerably stronger than last year I've had a look at height. It is probably one of the tallest I can ever remember.
Our new wingers are both over 6ft, Adomah and Ameobi.
Our new midfielders apart from Silva are all over 6ft, Sow, Semedo and Bostock, adding to Yates who is 6'3ft.
Of the team that started against Brum only Watson, Lolley and Robinson fall shy of 6ft.
I can't imagine this team being bullied off the ball too easily.

Well both club & other sites claim Yates to be 6ft 3 - but I’m not sure he’s quite that tall?
