It's only 5 games so far. Still early days (though we won't be able to say that indefinitely.) To fair, all the games have been tight. But for keeper errors in many of them, Forest would be better off. Like you say, only take a couple of wins. If we beat Boro' and then get another win after, things would look very different. SA. If Forest had brought in 'the monster striker' beast, then it would give opposition teams something to think about. Teams know how to set up against ageing legs of Grabban and Lyle. We don't have a 'mixer' striker that can rough up teams. We're easy to play against in that regard. Probably also lack a more seasoned and expansive midfielder like Gueddy. Yates and Garner are young. Lots of potential. But young. You see how Cardiff deal with a team with an average age of '23'. SA. In fairness, we probably won't come up against a team as big as that again (he says with Boro and Millwall to come...) Think Hughton needs a bit of time with 'his' own players. How much time is up to the owners. But for 45 mins, a win was on for Forest. Alot of promise in that 1st half. They got sucker punched with two quick goals in the 2nd half. (That does need addressing.) They didn't have robust options to bring on to counter that. That's down to recruitment. If we had a 'Gueddy' type and a target man style striker, Cardiff would have bullied us quite so much. Felt we deserved at least a draw. SA. RE: Evangelos Marinakis And Co - Salvatore Matrecano - 13-09-2021 Deserved a draw? No idea what you were watching. We matched them first half and had a go but were lucky to be leading. 2nd half was total capitulation. How much time he gets depends on what he does with his team (minus one striker.) He's had one game with his team and it got off to a promising/flying start then 2nd half we got done over by rough housing. Be interesting to see how the team do vs Boro'. It goes without saying that we need a win. Anything to get us started. Boro' will have the same disrupting 'man handling' and 'it's a man's game' approach. (As will Millwall. The 3 games of Cardiff, Boro and Millwall are somewhat ironic. But it is what it is.) We have to deal with it. The Championship is muck and nettles. And some teams take that literally in Cardiff's case. But it's going to be a long season if you can't head a ball or a keeper can't come and claim it. There's nothing great about the 7/8 teams around us. They're struggling. Pleased Grabban got his goal from our loan LB. Great goal. Shame we didn't have another. One is risking v Cardiff. SA. I watched it on Sky and had the radio commentary going. :P Plenty of bright play (a pattern similar to the starts in the other games. But then the sucker punch comes when you don't build on your lead or get a keeper error.) We more than matched them 1st half and got the goal. We weren't lucky to be leading at all. Sure, we had a few hairy moments in a newly installed back line. Who knew? 2nd half. We did not deal with the subs at all. And I'm not sure we had anything on the bench that could counter that. But your keeper has to claim it and Samba didn't and another save where he couldn't get his hand to it. We're a bit young in CM. Boys vs Men for that 2nd half. Cardiff forced our errors. They're getting paid thousands of pounds a week to deal with it. So stand up and be men for gawd's sake. Get in there. SA. It hurts me to say it it really does. CH is never going to get 'his' players. He's going to get the C or D list players the club have brought in for him and as he says himself, it's his job to get results from the players he has at his disposal. Unfortunately for Chris, his record with us has demonstrated that he cant coach better performances from the players, which is surprising for an experienced manager. And he cant tub thump his way to motivating performances out of them either as it's not his way. We're on the slide now, and we can all feel it. I hate changing managers every twelve months but if we carry on like this then we're going to find ourselves 7 or 8 points adrift at the bottom with a side lacking in any semblance of confidence and the fans in utter revolt. That situation has relegation written all over it. At least a new manager may refresh the players a little and buy the club some time with the fans, ie a little spark. Had the 1st half continued in the 2nd half how things might have looked different. But we could have said that about the previous games. Keeper errors and dropped points. Forest sit on 1 point. Hughton isn't daft. He knows it's a results based business. He's alluded to it in interviews. We narrowly avoided relegation last season (with a careful rescue born of a January window) and it needed careful recruitment this season. (Just look at where teams like Swansea, Barnsley and Reading are. Football is a callous mistress...). Our recruitment has been late, it cost points because we didn't have it early on. So, for me, the season started yesterday. Caveat being. He now has ten of 'his' (I haven't heard any ringing endorsement of the recruitment by Hughton, a point picked up upon by Radio Notts no less...). Even we 'know' we have our Target c and d players and far from our 1st choices? When you get ten of 'your' players (I think Hughton will smile at the idea that these players are 'his'...) you then have to start getting results from them. You've probably got about ten games max to do that. Though if it is a relegation battle, Chris is the one guy I want to turn this around. (In the absence of Billy Davies.) Currently, the team has gone out in the 1st 6 games and competed for Chris. The results have been close. But Hughton is on record as saying we need to pick up points. If we're marooned or in danger of getting adrift, the inevitable will happen. (Though, I suspect, that may not change the underlying symptoms of Forest's malaise.) SA.
