What’s Gone Wrong? - Redgirl - 19-01-2019 We were going great guns, Grabban was scoring for fun, Lolley was unplayable, defence was solid then all of a sudden our team seemed to disintegrate. What’s happened? Is it Dawson’s injury? Personality problems? Lolleys head being turned? Something happened to derail our season, these players were firing on all cylinders one minute then underperforming the next, even before we all realised there was a problem with Karanka. What on earth has gone wrong again? RE: What’s gone wrong? - Salvatore Matrecano - 19-01-2019 I think Hykeham nailed it on the 442 thread. Carv, Lolley and Grabbban were linking and playing well, Figs and Daws solid at the back. The front 3 dont seem to click at the moment, the defence we know about and we badly lack leadership on the pitch. To add to that we have got rid of a manager who was, admittedly slowly, building a squad and now have one who clearly doesnt know the strenths of the team he has inherited and will want to restructure in some way which takes time. Yet again we look like we are building for next season at best. RE: What’s gone wrong? - Largo Latacunga - 19-01-2019 Whatever happened between Karanka and owners before Ipswich game (up to that we looked like a proper team) had a huge impact on AK and it all went pear shaped after that culminating in his resignation RE: What’s gone wrong? - Redgirl - 19-01-2019 Dawson getting injured was a big turning point for me. As soon as he was given the captains armband our form improved, defence looked solid and we played well. As soon as he was injured form dipped. We need a leader on the pitch. I would’ve liked it to be Coleback but he is on loan, can’t really see that happening. AK spent 25m to form 1 method and had naff all backup for that, which is criminal after spending that amount. He built his success on players like Daws, Geds & Carav who are never gonna give you quality coonstantly over a season (Daws & Geds too battered & old, Carava too green & shams it when needed). MON will do fine once he's got to grips with the squad & had a few of his own players come here. Trouble is we're liable to rip it all up again halfway through. EM appears to be from the Fawaz school of footballing decisions. RE: What’s gone wrong? - PsychoStooge - 19-01-2019 The board take the blame, simple as that. 1. Make the manager's job untenable when he's doing well. 2. Display a complete lack of bollocks after they've made his job untenable and wait 3 weeks for him to walk rather than sacking him. 3. Hire completely the wrong manager for the squad we've got. RE: What’s gone wrong? - ThePromisedLand - 19-01-2019 Sounds like the prat just across the river! Nah, made my mind up after Norwich on Boxing Day. The board take the blame for another wasted season. Until I'm presented with any evidence that suggests otherwise I'll continue believing the board made the managers job untenable, after someone decided to tell the media on conclusion of the game against Norwich on Boxing Day that he was going to be sacked. It's very well telling me I'm parroting crap I've read on social media, why don't you present an argument or enlighten me if you know otherwise. Neither party comes out of it in any good light to me. The board get 1st place for their wranglings, but AK's lack of fight to stay & make a go of it has lost a LOT or respect from me. In fact it makes me wonder if he had it in him to go up anyway, lacking the bottle to see a season out, whatever deal was made. Pathetic behaviour from both parties, and an insult to us fans. I agree with you S B D (Alf), I would take it back further to the Mark Warburton sacking, maybe even his appointment or the guy before him, before him, before him … I definitely envy clubs who bring players through from there youth I also believe that any bottom 6 team is only 4 or 5 signings away from being a top 6 I believe AK signed far too many players, definitely in that either getting too old, or too inexperienced, too short a deal or loan, also the compulsory injury curse To be honest I think all of us could make a list of 10 fundamental mistakes, all different and they would all be contributors to why we aren't comfortably top 6 |
