Set Pieces - wassy04 - 12-03-2019 There may already be a thread on this subject somewhere but can I just praise the dramatic transformation in our attacking set pieces since MON took over. Now looks our best chance of scoring! Our long throws look dangerous too. I’d assume the addition of the big centre backs and Yates playing regularly has helped too but it’s about time. For years it’s been such a wasted commodity, glad it’s finally been addressed. RE: Set Pieces - Mcforest - 13-03-2019 I think the old set piece topic was more about how we can not defend them in any shape or form. Feel a lot more comfortable that unless it is something special in the delivery we will now compete for the first and second balls into the box. Be good to score from a few tonight. RE: Set Pieces - Alf - 13-03-2019 MON knows the game, he knows the league, he knows what makes the difference between winners & losers. It's no surprise he's made a point of addressing this key area. I was well disapointed with AK for how he failed to address this area of our game. All the fanfare he came with about him getting results above all, and set peices were still as flakey as thy were under Warbs. Poor. We're not just getting things right now, but we're getting key things right. RE: Set Pieces - Duncan Mckenzie - 13-03-2019 We are delivering them better, we are defending them better and we are not giving daft free kicks away in dangerous areas so often. It's all basic stuff but stuff that we couldn't do well under the three previous managers. RE: Set Pieces - Camms - 13-03-2019 Long throws from Robinson and Cash have also been useful weapons under Mon but we never seen them used under Karanka. I don't think it is basic stuff. If it was then we would've been doing it for years. I think players on the pitch make a huge difference. Murphy and Benaloune are solid aerially. Pants is more confident with an aerially dominant CB in front of him. Take them out of the side and we might not be as effective. RE: Set Pieces - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 13-03-2019 Surely things don't get any more basic than crossing a ball from set pieces, heading balls away from set pieces, not giving daft free kicks away around your own box and lauchning long throw ins? RE: Set Pieces - Username - 13-03-2019 I think we've improved massively in this area. I know Danny Fox was a popular figure at the Club in the latter stages at Forest but I don't think we were ever a dominant Team defensively when he was the mainstay. Exactly, sadly it also shows that some of our ex managers couldn't even get the basics right. Other at CH vs our current two CH monster bosses. SA. RE: Set Pieces - Alf Garnett - 19-03-2019 Robinson's long throw looked like our best chance of scoring more goals at Ipswich on saturday. It is definitely a weapon for us. I also think our delivery from set pieces is better when Lolley is taking them instead of Carvalho. RE: Set Pieces - Alf Garnett - 19-03-2019 Those long throws with Murphy and Benalouane attacking them in the box are creating chances. It's not very pretty but it could turn out to be effective. |
