18th May 1991... - Red Dog - 15-05-2021 Tuesday next week marks the 30th anniversary of a very painful day and in particular the performance of Roger the Perm. One has often wondered what would have would have happened if he had done his job and produced a red card. For me, this article just about hits the nail on the head. Where we would be now if justice had been done?? RE: 18th May 1991... - TheGreenMan - 15-05-2021 A truly awful refereeing performance! RE: 18th May 1991... - Salvatore Matrecano - 15-05-2021 My first and last trip to Wembley with Forest :( RE: 18th May 1991... - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 15-05-2021 (15-05-2021, 10:06 AM)Salvatore Matrecano Wrote: My first and last trip to Wembley with Forest :( Christ, who would have thought that at the time  RE: 18th May 1991... - Paplane - 15-05-2021 (15-05-2021, 10:08 AM)Sniffer Dog Wrote:(15-05-2021, 10:06 AM)Salvatore Matrecano Wrote: My first and last trip to Wembley with Forest :( We were absolutely spoilt for Wembley appearances before that final though. Ive never been to the new Wembley, thats more surprising considering we have a reasonably achievable shot at getting there every year. RE: 18th May 1991... - Salvatore Matrecano - 15-05-2021 We of course made the league cup final a year later, I didnt go to that but next year will be 30 years since we appeared at Wembley. I saw a stat not long ago of clubs who have never played at the new Wembley, think there are only 8 of them including us, nearly all lower league and a number of those clubs played in finals at Cardiff which we never did. We really have been starved of success for far too long. RE: 18th May 1991... - Plymouth red - 15-05-2021 Can't even remember the last time we made a QF of a cup, never mind a SF. Our cup runs have been pretty terrible over the past 20 odd years RE: 18th May 1991... - Sabricadabra - 15-05-2021 It should have been a red, but we played rubbish and deserved to lose. No need to blame referees. Over the years we’ve been good at failing to beat teams with ten men, even when we’ve had nearly the whole game such as against Swansea in the play offs and Derby at home, a few years back. There’s nothing to say we would have won that game in ‘91. It’s likely we would still have lost even if Gascogne had been sent off. I dunno, back then were a slick passing side and I recall as such we were considered the side 'you wouldnt want to play against with 10 men'. I recall that was said in the sem against west ham when it happened. RE: 18th May 1991... - Fumanchew - 15-05-2021 Just read Daniel Taylor’s article/interview with him on the athletic and my god am I angry. You can see how much the FA cup final meant to his ego more then looking after the integrity of the game. RE: 18th May 1991... - Jon Moss - 15-05-2021 I still say that Cloughie's team selection on the day cost us. We were flying in the build up to the final. Lee Glover had been excellent and Roy Keane had usurped Steve Hodge as our box to box midfielder. I would have preferred Brian Laws to Gary Charles, but really we should have been playing against 10 men and Nayim would not have been able to come on and influence the game the way he did. That's what cost us too. |
