I like us having the title of the oldest football league club.

We should embrace it and be proud of it.

Bang on!
Celebrate it!
And sell it as hard as you can when negotiating with sponsors, suppliers etc.

Exactly, this is what I was waiting for someone to say.

I can't understand why some people are displaying negative energy about us being the oldest football league club in the world. I think it's brilliant and I am proud of it.

I would wholeheartedly embrace it if it was permanent. It's just that we're the oldest who are currently in the league, so it can change, so use it but it can't be part of our identity.

i can't believe it is true, i want it to be true and happy for facts about our claim to be the oldest 'football league club' to be shared. I really want to believe it is true and it is us, i think we have such a rich good history anyway this is sort of quite a big thing in its own right, are we really the 'oldest football league club' as in any football in club in their respective top 4 divisions .. anywhere in the world? Hope so though it's the sort of thing that would feel better when associated with winning something .. even though there are relatively few teams ... but being 'the oldest PL team' would feel really good or going out onto wembley for a cup final ... and here emerge ... Nottingham Forest Football Club ... the oldest football league club in the world ... yes i like it

In all honesty I think this will be for one season only. Notts are the only FA Cup winners and former top flight club to drop through the trap door. Average 7k crowds this term too. It won't be easy, but I think they will return 1 year from now.

Much much more difficult than it first appears...

I think only 2 teams have managed to do it in the last 15 years so it's not easy.

I reckon we will have the title of the oldest football league club for a good few years.

I think they can do it. If their new owner comes in with the good attitude and doesn't start sacking all the staff and generally cost cutting then they have a chance of turning it around quickly.

Let's face it they're a big club at that level. The stadium is unbelievable for a non-league club. Hope their fans stick with them.

Tha's the problem though, they will be a big scalp. It will be like a cup final for other teams when they go to Murder Lane  :dodgy:

Nottingham Forest are now Football League's oldest club, not Stoke City.

Stoke had previously claimed the title after Notts County's relegation.

The EFL are currently trying to validate claims that Nottingham Forest are now the Football League's oldest club.

The title, which had been proudly held by Notts County for over 130 years, was passed on last week when the Magpies were relegated from the Football League.

Initially, it was believed that Stoke would take the mantle, with their badge claiming that the club were founded back in 1863.

However, since then football fans and experts alike have questioned the validity of that claim.

Leading football historian Mark Metcalf sparked the three-week-long row when he dug deep into the archives to prove that the Potters were not founded until three years after Forest.

"Official records show that a club known as Stoke Ramblers was formed in October 1868 when they played their first game," he said.

"That club later merged with Stoke Victoria Cricket Club and eventually became Stoke City."the club last week refused to budge and unveiled their new Macron home and away kits for the 2019/20 season with the words "EST 1863" embroidered on the back of the collar.

But now they may be forced to make late alterations to those designed with the EFL suggesting that the Reds, officially founded in 1865, are in fact older and are rightful bearers of the title of the oldest Football League club.

"We can confirm that Nottingham Forest are the oldest club," said an email, received today from the English Football League.

"There appears to be some misinformation online, regarding Stoke's foundation date.

"However, we can confirm that Forest will be the oldest club, formed at an unknown date in 1865, and documented as playing its first games in 1866."
