How many times during window we heard still plenty of time to get the striker we need, yet somehow we seemed to have avoided all the good strikers who have joined championship clubs this season.
If this was a squad put together to just try improve on our recent lowly league positions then that would be understandable but Marinakis has clearly stated he wants promotion at all costs (well apart from spending in on the team that is).
Are we stronger, we shall see, especially as we were so poor at times last season.
Have we seen any long term planning and investment, then the answer to that is no!
My take on the window is I don’t think we’ve done enough again to make us promotion contenders
Whilst we seemed to have increased numbers I am not sure we have made a long term investment. We also have a number of unwanted players stinking the place up. Although in the case of Murphy and Cummings, they may get a call up due to the lack of strikers at the club.
Quantity again over quality, let’s see if that’s true again under the Greeks, but as for which signings will make good investments then let’s look...
Muric. Hopefully will come good, pleased he signed. Only on loan so no resale value at all
Samba Brice, we decided to spend money on a keeper that will come in as second choice. We shall if he is any good. Potentially has good resale value, but to realise that would need to play.
Jenkinson. Only 27 been around years but not that many games due to lots of injuries. If he can find the form from earlier in his career then would have great resale value. If he plays like he did at Birmingham and struggles with injuries, he will be a new member of the bomb squad. Imo Byram would’ve been better if looking at right back.
Chema is another unknown, who will either be a hit or out 6th choice centre back. We have gone for the cheap route here, McKenna would’ve been a long term better investment, a player who knows British game and at just 22 has captained his country but club not prepared to spend that type of money.
Samba Sow, not seen him play at his age won’t be much resale value. Let’s hope he can quickly make an impression.
Bostock
Potential resale value if can live up to early years hype. After years playing out of England we shall see if he can come in and make a difference
Semedo
No resale value as loan, but liked the look of him. Raw and has a lot to learn. We may benefit but not in the long run if he does well
Silva
Looks best bet for resale value if he can come to terms with the championship.
Mir,
At moment is a loan to buy. Depends on how much he will cost, but as things stands being a loan no resale value and a lot resting on him if Grabban gets injured. Although he spends a lot of his playing career on the wing of a front 3
Riberio,
Should have resale value if he can actually get any games. Although 50% of any transfer fee would be straight to Benfica.
Ameobi. Only signed a one year contract, so will be free next summer. Not really an upgrade on what we’ve had and has no resale value.
Adomah, at his age no resale value unless we can sell him to China but they didn’t want him when free
Not sure we addressed the pace issue we have been missing and of course lack of goals last season
So lots of players in and the proof of the pudding is if they make us stronger. What they haven’t done is increased the value of the squad
Speculate to accumulate is a good mantra like when we bought Britt but the way it looks not many of these newbies will be quadrupling in value like we have seen can happen at other clubs (only really Lolly in recent times under new owners)
Will those signings really incite fear into other teams in the championship especially after losing at home to WBA who have really been serious about promotion with the business they’ve done this week?
Buy cheap you pay twice and no doubt whoever is the new manager/head coach at the club next year will have another big job on their hands again dealing with another huge turnover of players.
And if Sabri is a miracle worker and gets us promoted how many of the permanent signings good enough for the Premier league?
At end of day (or shall I say window) i do hope we have a deal sheet it for Gayle, but as forest fans can only live in hope.
