I totally agree with you on that point. Opinions differ but the question is if it really should differ. If you disregard any non-footballing reasons like looks, hairstyle, tattoos etc. and just try to evaluate the player purely based on footballing reasons it shouldn't be that big of a gap in opinions. My theory is that most football fans don't really understand roles and responsibilities of the different team formations and are not trained enough to be able to do a proper analysis of a game. For example. most fans tend to just follow the ball and don't really see what's happening off the ball.
The Osborn haters will probably argue that he was the worst player on the pitch against Leeds and that his goal was just pure luckĀ :D
