When they took over the club, what they said and what they DID off the field convinced me Forest were going to be run professionally.  Just the lick of paint to the Forest Ground (which has been left to 'rot' and rust by previous owners which was a disgrace...) and the new technical areas/dugouts told me something.  The open letter was a frank admission of Forest's state ('life support') and the robust hiring of quality professionals to fill the off the field positions told me that Forest weren't going to be run as a corner shop but as a professional organisation.

The sponsorship deal (Forest's most lucrative ever?) tells us something else.

The January business was handled swiftly.  Deadwood out in what has been one of the most brutal transfer window culls of recent Forest times...and swift replacements of proven quality and experience.  Ten players being brought in in a tight turnaround of time.

That professionalism tests the new infrastructure and team and shows they can deliver 'in context' of what was a difficult time following that terrible Preston game.  They backed their man, Karanka...his judgement with actions.

Negotiating with agents who can access players quality Portuguese players and the know how to fund a transfer busting deal for one of them with the other on loan.

Forest are being linked with quality players in all positions.

But it was when they signed Karanka.  I thought this.  'We're going to get promoted.'

(I remember when 'Boro signed Karanka.  I felt at the time that Forest missed a trick...and kept a casual eye of their results and he turned them around.  Though he did start from a higher base than Forest who were in a mess when he arrived following a 'modest' transfer window last Summer. ie.  Murphy didn't play and Forest's youngsters looked lost.  I noted from the Fulham, Burton and QPR games that Forest were a different side.  Far more robust.  (Less of a glass chin even with players who included left overs from Dougie's back line. Successive miss mashes of previous squads from several other managers often including mediocre signings? Lichaj, Mancienne, Hobbs, Fox', Os' ((a makeshift LB...)) and a rookie keeper aren't a top 6 defensive line...as they proved with the deluge of sucker punch goals they conceded...even including the vulnerable and brittle play of the former manager. In short. Forest's squad needed a complete overhaul and it has been coming for a long, long time. The previous three seasons league positions told its own story.)  Spotting talent like Fig' and bringing in the experience of Pants made a large difference and that was only a partial band aid to a much needed bigger overhaul of an area, the defence, that lacked height, experience and quality AND leadership.)

I fully expect Karanka to overhaul each position in the front 11 and have quality in reserve. (Some of those players arrived in January, some of those players who arrived in January will be good enough squad players which is probably what Karanka was thinking in January. 'Good enough' now and 'better' in the Summer equals a squad, not just a team.)

We face the real prospect of a Forest team that has been built from successive transfer windows, had a step up in quality (more time to prepare for the Summer window) and a full pre-season of training with a proper pre-season fixture list.

When was the last time that actually happened at Forest? (Are we finally in danger of becoming organised?)
