Most of last seasons starters have either left or been frozen out so there are very few qualifiers; but everyone is assuming that all of the newcomers will fit straight in.
That kind of scenario very rarely happens, if at all; some of the new players, particularly the ones moving countries will need time to settle in, both with the team and their new living environment; that seldom happens in a linear fashion.
We need to bear in mind that Karanka is also quite profligate in the transfer market; well he certainly has been in the past.
During his first three years at Boro he signed the following number of players:
1st (half season) 2 perms and 6 loans
2nd 8 perm and 9 loans
3rd 7 perm and 9 loans
That is a bug churn of players.
As tempting as it will be to start with a shed load of newcomers, I reckon he will err on the side of caution; if he goes for broke from game 1 he has nowhere to turn to if things go wrong.
He will have a look and will by the time the season starts have a good idea on whether they are good enough.
He wants this to be his team I think.
So I would not rule out a completely new team.
