Neither is having 13 managers in 8 years though Redgirl.
If, the rumours about player unrest is true, what can be done about it? We are hearing far too often in this day and age about Managers getting the sack due to players falling out with their manager etc.
Players who do not do what they are expected to do, for example, cause problems further down the line. If, for example, one player is seen, by the rest of the squad, to have gotten away with not doing something they should've done, just, for example, Geddy not warming down after a match, despite being on the bench, then other players see him getting away with it and decide in the future, they won't warm down afterwards because they had been an unused sub, what then? The club finds itself in a situation whereby it has a system in place at all times, but players are allowed to misuse that system. That system is then deemed to have been a waste of time!
There is the rumour of another player being disciplined for turning up late for the team bus. Is this excusable? No, it isn't. The bus has been scheduled to leave at a certain time for a reason. What next? a player turns up at the ground after kick off and expects to get dressed and stroll onto the pitch part way through a game?
At the end of the day, players have a responsibility to do what the club asks of them. They are paid well enough to do that right? The manager is the clubs representative to do the asking, in the best interests of the club, right? So if players decide that they will or will not do something against the express wishes of the club, then that players decision is not in the best interests of the club is it? It isn't in my opinion anyway.
Yes, players should be able to question decisions made by the manager, if they feel it would benefit anyone or it wouldn't work. But there is a right way and a wrong way to go about things. Remember the famously Cloughie quote? " A player would come into my office complaining about something, we would sit, we would talk about it for 20 minutes, then we would agree that I was right".
Managers need to be better protected from player disruption otherwise in another 8 years, will we have reached the 30 managers in 16 years headline in the papers, with still no stability at the club and still languishing in the Championship? For me, a manager should be sacked for poor results, inappropriate behaviour, which could be anything, not just football related, or for bringing the clubs good name and integrity down. He should not be sacked because certain players don't like being told off for doing something wrong, or they didn't like having to run up Wollaton Hall hill on a warm sunny day.
As someone that is regularly late for work I have to say being disciplined seems a bit harsh! Sure if it’s consistently causing an issue but being 5 mins late isn’t going to make much difference right?
No Wassy, you make a rule and you stand by it otherwise it will creep into other areas and then suddenly you have a situation such as the one being talked about now.
