Given our surfeit of centre backs you wouldn’t want to pick up an injury however slight - the replacement would be likely to then keep the shirt barring a catastrophe. Hence Chema & Figs may have to be patient but could anticipate a run in the side once given a start.
Players respect that in a coach. You have to be patient earn your place. You have to respect the guy that's done that. And if you get your chance? Take it. You will have earned it to by performing on the training ground. By performing well for the shirt. You have to earn the right to keep your place. A team has to be built on respect. And then players will know where they stand. Bide their time. Take their chance. Keep the shirt. It elevates the performance level of the team and squad.
Cash and Muric, for example weren't dropped after the 1st game. (Undone by 1 fluke goal and one offside goal.) They got a chance to step up. As did the whole team. Against the 'Much fancied ourselves' Leeds.
I think that's more likely to breed harmony in the dressing room. Trust in the players. Trust in the manager's judgement. Play for the badge.
