Bailey and Ramsay were out injured for their midweek game aswell. If Watkins is also out, it does leave them pretty short up top. They had a crazy back and forth game on Tuesday, which will hopefully give us a tiny % advantage. Should be a cracker!!

I haven't seen Villa much this season although I know they have a rough schedule and Europe has taken a toll on their league form.

This is definitely a game we can take points from. It's hard to see Nuno not picking Anderson and Jota who's recent performances deserve a goal id say.

Hopefully our defence is solid and we create chances like we did against united with a more compact midfield.

Been so busy with work I haven’t been able to do these for a while so a quick one on a Friday.

Aston villa starting formation is a 1-4-2-3-1. That said the team move into a asymmetrical 1-4-2-2-2 formation with one central forward, one forward drifting to the right, two number-tens, and no player on the left wing. It is only when they move further up the pitch into the attacking third the left full back moves into the space of a left winger/forward to create a 1-3-2-5 formation. This set up is designed to play in the middle of the pitch and suck the opposition in to the congested area as they move forward so they can then spring the ball wide into space and that is when they attack.

Without the ball they play a high backline with a low press system and set up a mid block. Now a mid block doesn’t mean the middle third of the pitch that they then start to close the ball down it means they set up to be compact in the central areas leaving the left and right sides more open for progression. So in a nut shell they want the defence to be as high as they can, stop teams being able to pass the ball in central areas and force them wide and they then block passing avenues as the opposition moves forward into their half before they then close down the ball in the low press. It’s a very effective trap strategy as you isolate wide players with the ball and they are only left with high risk passes. That said if the opposition has skilful wingers there are points that they are in 1v1 situations before the press is started, it’s a dangerous situation to be in as if the defender gets beat there is no cover. Thus why they are open to fast counter attacks.

I rate Elanga but for me he needs to get a goal off the bench.

It's not just the win last week that makes me want to keep Jota starting, it's the fact he is involved in goal score chances regularly.
