Tails’ webchat this morning was more interesting than usual. He was given dogs abuse from all & sundry for suggesting that AK’s job tenure is hanging by a thread. He insists however that ‘sources’ suggest that he is very much in need of 6 points from the next 2 games to avert being given the heave ho.

That sounds very much to me that Aitor’s fate is already sealed. And yes I do believe Tails, he is not a bullxxxt merchant like some.

I don’t want frequent change, but I haven’t been impressed by Karanka and I don’t think he can be a long term solution anyway. But as to whether to change him it really depends who you can get. Leonardo Jardim (there was a rumour about him), then hell yes. Martin O’Neill? Hell no.

Jardim is a really interesting link. It’s come from somewhere but he’d want another £20m at least in Jan. he’s also been linked with every top job out there including Milan today. Dream on. O’Neil will be a repeat of McLeish- play similar football - similar standing in the game - similar result. It would appease some I think but it will see the same result.

Forest haven't had a full year under Aitor. They've had 5 months of a 1st 'proper' season. Under that context, Forest have moved heaven and earth to be where they are.

Having outplayed the top 6, more time and another window need to fix the current malaise...which is actually, at it's heart, symptomatic of at least 3 seasons before Aitor arrived. In fact, it's going back over 20 years of basket case running of the 'corner shop.'

Whenever a new manager comes in, it torpedo's the current season.  So what's the point?

Aitor has been given relatively little time.  3 points off a play off spot.

Forest were never going to tonk this league in the top two.  It doesn't make sense.  Norwich and Leeds are further ahead and it shows their squads.

Even the rest of the top 6 are.

You just can't fix that in one season.  That Aitor has humbled and rumbled the top 6 is testament to the team he built.

We're the best side in the top not in the top 6.

Forest's decades long problems won't be solved in one season.

When they employed Aitor, it said 2 and a half years on his CV to take Forest out of the Championship.

I don't think anyone would change that in one season. The stats say a minimum of two-ish seasons in general.

Tails made it clear he thinks AK should be given time, but reported that he basically has none! Obviously has a good (and confidential) source. It's a bit like that film Remember the Titans- keep winning or be sacked!

He’s had a year, which isn’t ‘relatively little time’ in the context of football coaching.

That we are 3 points off the play-offs isn’t really the point, how you judge a manager’s performance is whether he gets the best out of the resources he’s given. A manager could be doing a bad job but be top of the league (anyone with a pulse but scraping it at PSG) or a good job and be bottom (Nigel Clough at Burton?). My criticism of Karanka is that I don’t think he has got the best out of what he’s been given, which is partly down to questionable team selection and choice of subs, and a stubbornly overly cautious and counter-attack game style. The frustrating thing is that it isn’t just getting players to gel or develop their style, I’d be more patient with that, it’s down to questionable managerial decisions. If I thought Karanka was getting the best out of the resources I’d be happy with him with Forest in 10th. What frustrates me is that the league this year has been an opportunity that we haven’t taken but should have done.

Changing the manager doesn’t necessarily ‘torpedo’ the current season. It will partly depend on how much of the current first team squad the new guy wants to retain, and his style of play. And to that point, the inherent weakness in Karanka’s style is not an easy fix given he shows no real attempt to do so.

Another reason why you would make a change now is because then the new manager gets two windows and 8 months to get the players in and playing to his style before the start of next season. That seems a better set-up than making the change late in the season or at the end and giving him only one window.

The way i see it ive bought into karankas project, he has improved us massivly. Yes we have spent but we have also sold players
