I know Don Mackay who was manager at Coventry at the time and sold the pair to Cloughie.
A few months later he called Don thanking him for Pearce but then started effin and jeffin about Butterworth and how shit he was and had a go at Don for selling the player to him and said he would never speak to him again because of this and then put the phone down on him.

'So what happened after that, Don?' i asked.
'Nothing. He never spoke to me again'.

I agree, but at least he appears to be showing the right attitude and application this season under Copper rather than sulking.
By chance I know an ex-pro (played football socially with him) who helped his agent on the Taylor to Forest deal.
He told me directly what his salary was. Suffice to say that moving him on would free up a decent chunk of budget for new/younger & cheaper players).

And there in lies the problem. Who is going to match the wages we are giving to a 31 year old who doesn’t seem to be good enough for a starting place in a mediocre Championship team.

Pre-covid, if we decided to part ways then I would say there would still be half a dozen in the Championship who could afford him.
Salaries are obscene, but we normal people would still be surprised what is the 'going rate' for top half championship players.
Forest pay very very good money; too much a lot of the time but we are not the worst by a long streak and there have been/will be many casualties of FFP to attest that.

Post-covid, Im not so sure. 
But then thats life and if we were to part ways and it were to cost us the difference on his salary then its a 'mistake' we will have indeed paid for; but the principle remains that it is necessary to take the cost on the chin to effect the squad change we are implementing and to try and eradicate similar mistakes in the future.
