That is not building the club for the future, it is only going to impact us more on FFP as neither are investments (no sell on value) and will probably mean selling off more of our younger players to pay for the bad recruitment mistakes the club are continually making.
To rub salt in the wounds to say, Bournemouth will let Gosling leave, so they can bring in Ben Pearson from Preston is simply crazy as all we are doing is helping another team offload their deadwood, so they can bring in a better player, that can’t be right.
We should be going for Ben Pearson ourselves if we ever want to be fighting for Promotion.
How will older Players like that help Forest when they can’t even get into the Watford of Bournemouth sides this year?
If these are players Chris Hughton is demanding, then perhaps he isn’t the right manager for Nottingham Forest, he certainly isn’t getting the best out of the players he currently has.
What is the Clubs Transfer Strategy?
There doesn’t seem to have one, therefore is it any wonder we are heading to League One. We need ambition and passion from the owners, we need to actually hear from there (all we get is silence) and we need to be excited about the future and believe we are in good hands. At the moment that couldn’t be further from the truth. Signing more players at the very end of the career will not change supporters’ minds.
This could turn out to be another disastrous transfer window.
Well for starters Bournemouth and Watford are better teams than us so thats why they can't get into those sides.
Secondly, this is all wild speculation and you're making a number of pretty big assumptions including that these are permanent contracts and also that they are large contracts.
In the same way we've struggled to get rid of players other clubs will have the same issues. We won't just take on big contracts, if anything these are likely to be short term deals to allow the players a chance to earn a bigger deal from someone in the summer by playing more regularly.
We're not in for Pearson because both Bournemouth and Preston are better teams than us. Why would he choose to come here?
This feels like a continuation of the strategy from the summer to target players with specific championship experience which up until the summer was what most wanted.
Maybe judge at the end of the window rather than complaining because we're not trying to sign a rival's best player
Dan has played 15+ games for Bournemouth this season and even scored a couple of goals so he has definitely been in and around the team so maybe smart to do a quick search before posting
We have signed Mbe Soh (19 years), McKenna (23), Blackett (26), Iannou (24) and loaned Christie (27), Cafu (27), Knockaert (28), Freeman (28) and Krovinovic (25) and then we have brought in 4 players that were 30 years (Colback, Arter, Taylor and Guerrero). Looks pretty balanced to me and on paper good quality as well.
So how are we doing then?

We have a 28 man squad with an average age of 28, 2 years older than the Championship average.
9 of the current squad are over 30 years old
16 of the current squad are over 28 years old
The only attacking players we have below 28 years old are Mighten and now Krovinovic which might explain the lack of pace.
In my opinion this doesnt make for a particularly balanced squad.

The average age of the squad will come right down in the summer when Dawson and Grabban leave plus Guerrero too. For me there is no issue with the age of our squad.

Yes of course, nothing positive with those signings.

Our transfer dealings at least in the past has been agent based rather than scouted which is why it has been so random at times. Im hoping Gary Brazil will start to change that which will in turn reduce the number of ageing players.
Last summer we moved from focusing on younger players form Spain Portugal and France to mainly recruiting experienced Championship players. That is not having a strategy, nothing to do with a style of play or identity. It was a random acquisition aimed at reactively filling gaps in the squad and again was mostly agent dealings.
We need to start planning ahead, what we want the squad to look like in 3 years time. Not a desperate shit or bust push for promotion in 1 season that we keep repeating. I still think having a director of football would help in this regard and would support Brazil and Modesto in their work. We are I accept making progress and optimistic from reports of some real prospects that have been joining the U23s.

A start of a new strategy has been made with Brazil and the manager now doing most of the recruitment for the first team and Modesto finding younger players from abroad for our under 23's and he's doing a good job of that to be fair to him.
The new strategy needs more time though to develop, it's still very new and in it's infancy. We cannot judge on what happens in January, we will see in the summer.
Oh and we already have a Director of Football.

Sounded sarcastic Gari - I apologise.
But these were the first words that came to mind.
I’d really like to know what our strategy is - there certainly isn’t an obvious trend.
Gary Brazil - and his ongoing work with the Academy - is the one shining light.
I’ve heard it said that we’re now focussing on the domestic market.
But that can’t be right - since half of the players we signed in the Summer haven’t played in England until they came to NG2.
And - as has already been stated by others - our average age is on the high side.
I would genuinely like to know what our strategy is?

Absolutely and Im quite happy with a system of Brazil sourcing from this country, Modesto scouting in Europe and agreed with the manager. Genuinely hopeful for the summer which is in part why I dont want to see panic buys now.
So who is DOF?
Ammended, DOF is Dourekas. You said he is only involved in logistical matters though? I meant more a head of football strategy.

Good to know that we have people on the forum that knows exactly what has been done and what needs to be done.
To be honest, I don't see any major problems with the recruitment done this summer. It looked good at the time. I don't believe we needed that many new players but if you look at it isolated then the overall balance looked good (both age and position).
