If he wins out in the contract with us and secures his £8m release fee effectively he could leave as and when he chooses. He'd basically be in a position at every window where HE and he alone gets to decide if he's leaving or staying. The club would be mad to allow him to dictate such terms and I hope they stick to their guns.
Both parties know he's not going to get a clause below market value. An 8m clause and he just be sold for 8m straight away! I'm sure there's creative clauses they could put in depending on results.
I dont think we should sell in Jan though unless we get 15m+. We'll still get that in the summer and he's a mainstay of the team, wouldn't be able to replace him and can use him to push up the table. His value will increase if he keeps doing well and there's always a chance he signs after seeing the progression
Interesting post. Good to read.
If the club get offered double figure millions, he's gone.
Tricky situation. Maybe something the club and the academy could learn from. Are we going to have future situations like this?
I do recall with Chris Bart Williams, the club refused to play him?
Doubt it will come to that as BJ offers alot to the team, at least up to January. The impasse likely says he's moving on.
It's a precedent the club will probably not want to dwell on. The Academy do a fine job developing 'kids' for the club and need to enjoy the fruit of that to partly sustain/fund the transfer policy.
He's replaceable. (Though Forest's recruitment has made historical hard work of replacing the academy players through recruitment.). Forest's scouting needs to do better to have the next Brennan lined up if the answer isn't 'in house.' Brentford managed to sell and recruit.
The club needs to be more progressive and long term with recruitment. Seek. Find. And they are, allegedly, moving in that direction.
SA.
