So we have a new Sporting Director. It would be interesting to know what his job role will entail and how he will work alongside the head coach (and whether it is in partnership or above the head coach)

I think this is a good move personally, another example of EM correcting a mistake in not hiring someone for this role sooner. We seem to have had a few people across different departments doing parts of the role which appears to have led to some disjointed signings that don't appear to have been exactly what the manager requested. (I also suspect he would've preferred slightly less signings!)

Hopefully this appointment can mend any rift with the manager, then WHEN he turns it around and we win a few games, he can sign a new deal and all will be hunky dory.

Would be nice if it plays out that way to be fair. Cooper leaving would be hard to bare.

I just read the article, the micro-managing element is pretty worrying. Although I guess that is part of the role of a Sporting Director outside of transfers right to an extent?

Anyway, it obviously depends on what license he's given in the role compared to at Watford as to whether he would have influence over a head coach and whether he will bring similar practises to those used at Watford. He did say he regretted not pushing for one manager not to be sacked at one point...

So an appointment that we needed but maybe worrying in terms of his actual previous role from a micro management perspective. Does bring us a step closer to just being Watford!

Seems like we have all decided Dane was crap then. Agreed he didnt step up like he should have done this summer but I am a long way from convinced this bloke and Charnley are good news.

Dane did a decent job in getting us Premiership ready in terms of the Premier League "owners manual" off the pitch. Also was driving force behind appointment of Cooper, who is the single biggest reason by a long way  why we're in the Prem at all.

He made mistakes (ticket office/Spence option to buy/Lareya etc...) but is also a large part of the reason Jonno wasn't sold to Brentford in January.

Very popular with staff at the club and should he go I thank him for the positive contributions he made along the way and wish him all the best.

I will add that there will need to be one hell of a water tight NDA included as part of his severance package....

Watford has been such a well ran club so will be a calming figure and ensure no hasty decisions are made.

I agree it makes sense to combine the brains behind two well run teams like Mike Ashley's Newcastle and Watford...

Also, no comment on Dane, agree with Zicorice above. I just was commenting more on the structure that having an actual Sporting Director rather than a group of people allegedly doing parts of the role sounds a lot more of an efficient setup.

So apparantly  he doesn’t claim the credit

Seems to me like some want to credit Dane with everything that is good and they want to credit EM and Milto with everything that is bad.
