Playing devils advocate, I would defend dt simply for doing what he thinks is best for his son. He will know there are a lot of players in that Forest squad who have been paid significantly more for doing diddly-squat. Perhaps this is leverage to try and get Forest to open up negotiations on a bigger and better contract. No idea personally but just a theory.

I think he'll either leave or sign a new deal with a pay rise and that relegation release clause removed/increased.

Brennan and his dad had a meeting with Brentford reps before the end of last season and was happy with an proposal made. So that has definitely encouraged them to bid. Reports say Brennan is also changing his agent. Normally this is done when you are looking to facilitate a move away.  I would like him to stay but all the signs are of him going or wanting to go.

Surely that was with us being relegated in mind but we stayed up which changes everything.

The relegation clause reputed to be 20m
That 100% needs removing as it does leave us vulnerable.

Imagine the inconceivable and we turn down 40m, to get relegated and only get 20m

You’d hope that BJ is a victim of his own success when it comes to his contract by all accounts he has performed when his stepped up to a new level and has been rewarded for that, hopefully now after his first season he’ll get a new contract that reflects his new status

I agree that if we are to sell then getting top dollar is the aim but would like to see us hold on for another season. Establish him more, get that consistency and experience and a £50 Mill asset becomes £100 Mill and you get one of the big 6 coming in.

My issue is with him going to Brentford who are not a bigger club in terms of stature. If it were the Geordies then I could see it considering their relative position and I would be telling him that if he sticks around, he could be attracting that type of offer next summer.

He'd have to have a pretty spectacular season to be worth 100m!

I disagree about it being pie in the sky for two massive reasons.

Firstly, had Leicester stayed up then there is no way he goes for that amount plus he's coming off an iffy season where he has suffered injuries. It would be the same had we got relegated - we would not have got the same money for johnno regardless of clauses. So I think this is an unfair comparison

As for silva, he is less but a) his wages will be massive compared to Johnson and b) he isn't British. We've seen with young British players that clubs will pay over the odds. We felt at the time that the price for mgw was excessive for a lad who had had a few matches in the premier league. Johnson has had a pretty successful first season and will get better and is british + there are still a number of years on the contract. Those things combined means that asking North of £50 million is not pie in the sky.

Should he have an even better season next year and contribute 15 goals plus 10 assists then his value increases more - although, at that point the contract situation would come into play.

Personally, I would like to see us offer him a better contract that more reflects his role in the side and if he turns it down then we look to sell while his stock is high.
