What is the end-state we are aiming for? Is the City Ground really big enough even if we got permissions?

35k with Peter Taylor stand, 38.5k with Bridgford End, maybe 40k filling in corners. Is that the target?

There's increases and there's increases. Yeah an increase might be fair but a 300% one?

When did we last have a rent review?

When we negotiated a 250 year lease but some how didn't get signed off??

The lease has been granted by Nottingham City Council and comes following the announcement in February of plans to build a new Peter Taylor Stand as well as make improvements to the Trentside area, Brian Clough and Bridgford Stands.

The City Council leases the land that the stadium sits on to the club and have been negotiating new terms to facilitate the redevelopment.

The current 50-year lease will now be replaced by a much longer 250-year agreement, which will also see Forest increase the size of their leased area to include the land on Trentside North, behind the Trent End, from Trent Bridge on one side up to Trent Lock, close to Lady Bay Bridge. As part of the new terms, the club will take on responsibility for the boat houses at either end of the site boundary. These had previously been tenants of the City Council and will see new facilities built as part of the project.

Nottingham Forest Chairman, Nicholas Randall QC said:

“The club would like to thank all those connected in helping secure our long-term future at The City Ground.

“When we announced our plans for the redevelopment of the stadium, we recognised the importance to remain at our iconic home. We understand what it means not only to our supporters but also for the people of the City and we are now delighted to have secured our lease for a further 250 years.

“We have been speaking to representatives of key groups involved in the redevelopment planning and will continue to do so to ensure the stadium is a place we all feel proud of.”

Councillor David Mellen, Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: “We share Nottingham Forest’s ambition for their redeveloped ground and have been pleased to work with them on the project. We understand what a huge difference it will make to Nottingham to have such a top-level sporting venue.

“We’re lucky that we have a proud sporting heritage in the city. Nottingham already boasts a world-class cricket ground, an elite-level ice hockey team and international-quality tennis facilities. This redevelopment of The City Ground will cement the reputation as a renowned sporting venue.

“It also forms part of the wider Nottingham Southside regeneration with £2billion of developments across a 0.5 square mile area. These exciting changes represent a new era for Nottingham, bringing thousands more jobs, millions more visitors and economic growth for the benefit of the entire city.”2

What is the end-state we are aiming for? Is the City Ground really big enough even if we got permissions?

Given all the arguments we have had so far there is no chance we will get planning for anything beyond around 38k on the current site or anywhere else in the immediate vicinity. Assume because TC has talked about plans for Bridgford they are confident they can squeeze to that amount.

If you want 50k you are looking at a new site which is very likely to be nowhere near the city but close to transport links.

There were some mentions a while back of near the power station. As I understand it, it has already been allocated as employment site, once/if they ever decommission the power station. So then you get your retail parks, restaurants, cinemas etc to be in a surrounding area. I believe East Mids parkway also runs very close so this could give a head start to plans? The M1 would be literally 10 minutes away and the airport (for when we are in Europe :)

Would tick a lot of boxes as to having good transport links, blank canvas to develop large area etc.

Would tick absolutely no boxes as regards connecting the club to the community it represents.

Its a no from me and I suspect the vast majority of people.

1. Nottm College/Council workshop area opp Hooters over the canal.
2. Broadmarsh ( if take down the old car park/Ocean nightclub block of buildings
3. Sneinton bus depot opp Ice Stadium.
4. between Glasshouse st and Huntingdon St. (oh mist rolling in from Viccy flats)

The thought of having to head out to M1 every game is depressing.

Is the County Hall site not big enough. It looks pretty big to me. Over this season i have been to a long of big premier league grounds which are much steeper than those at the city ground which i guess gives more seats in a smaller area. I suppose that is something for the architects. It’s all a bit academic anyway because all of this is speculative. I can’t see much happening now for a few years but I guess Forest will have to find a site in the next 25 years which they own. It will be a massive investment. With their own ffunding cut to the bone I can’t see local councils helping out.
