So the council are offering us land in Toton. Is this there way of trying to double bluff us? Fair to say this option is a no no.

Absolute charlatans. Imagine having to deal with that shower of shite.

There are a team of Government advisors running Nottingham Council; they have been there since November.

All of the recent news about the rent quadrupling and all other other stuff is coming from them.

There is no question that the Council have dug their own hole, but they will have little say in how the problems are resolved.

Surely it’s better for ‘the council’ to sell the land upon which the city ground sits to EM rather then he buy the land from the tories and move the club nearer to derby then nottingham city centre. They wouldn’t integrate the rail network so it’s trying to convince NET to put on extra trams on match day so everyone can cram on to the end of the line

The City Ground is land owned by the city council. The Toton site is owned by the County council. The County council have not gone bankrupt unlike the City council. We are going to get a better deal for land owned by the county council. A lot of the potential sites being suggested such as where Eastcroft incinerator is, is owned by the City council and they are not going to give any more favorable terms than they are offering for the land the city ground is on. Any new alternative stadium is going to have to be on land owned by the county not the city council.

Why isn’t there more flack from the people of Nottingham against the city council?
Why no demonstrations or a few placards etc?
Surely it would be electoral suicide for them to cause forest to leave?
Not to mention the loss of revenue in the city if the ground moved away.
Again that’s not going to endear them to the businesses of the area either.

If this was scouseland the council would have been ‘egged’ regularly and dobbers painted on their front doors as a minimum!

The City Ground is land owned by the city council. The Toton site is owned by the County council. The County council have not gone bankrupt unlike the City council. We are going to get a better deal for land owned by the county council. Fairly sure the Toton site was subject to an HS2 compulsory purchase order.

Why the need for demonstrations at this stage? A lot of this is just posturing by both sides to gain the upper hand. Nigel Doughty did a similar thing back in 2006 to threaten to move to another stadium when he wanted to try and screw the Council over for money the club owed. The Council knew he was bluffing as it would cost him far too much to do it. At this stage the Council are probably under the impression that the club are bluffing again. I think they are too TBH. However, this time it is different because the Council are now effectively being run by Government Inspectors. To what extent they have an overall say on all things relating to the running of the Council, I couldnt even guess. So at this moment in time, this is a situation never before encountered, so it is anyones guess who gets to have the final say. The times for demonstrations etc would be when the matter is due to come before the Full Council and even then, the Council cannot do much to kick us off the site without lengthy and very expensive judicial reviews. I'm sure EM would be prepared to dip his hand in his pocket to challenge any Council decision in this way, but the Council wouldnt be able to afford it.

It would be very damaging for the City Council to force Forest out of the WFCG and they know it would be very damaging for not just the local businesses around the ground (which are actually in Rushcliffe so are not in the City boundaries) but business in and around the City Centre, which is already seeing signs of recession and a significant drop in footfall. Politically, they would probably lose the Council for the first time in decades. I doubt it would fall to another political party though. I think it would become a Council of Independents, which would be very hard for the Labour group to win back.

Do not take too much notice of the Nottingham Post either. They seem to be getting most of their information and quotes off Twatter. They are saying 'Councillors are recommending going to Toton' for example, giving the impression City Councillors made that comment. It was in fact some Independent Councillor from the COUNTY COUNCIL that made that comment. But the way the post headlined it, it was made to imply it was City Councillors.

At this moment in time, I would suggest keeping an open mind to everything that is going on and to not take too much notice of press reports emerging because the press are not privvy to private meetings between the two sides, so are not aware of the true facts until formal announcements are made. Off the cuff comments made by either side do not mean things ARE going to happen or NOT going to happen dependent on what has been said.
