The Silence Is Deafening

Doesn't look like Keane is a goar for me either. Dragged on too long now. Surely MON will be making more backroom staff appointments though.. or have they just just not bothered to tell us?

Better comminication with the fans in most definitely one area in which our club can improve.

The lack of clarification over certain things is bot annoying and frustrating.

Can't see it personally. I think if Roy doesn't come he'll just stick with the current set up of Guppy & McDonagh & maybe draft another coach in.

My gut feeling as much as I don’t like it is MON will not be here for long. For some reason although he came in a transfer window something does not feel right. I hope I’m wrong but the feeling around is not the usual atmosphere when a new manager comes in.

Great post NG3, I seem to be on a downer at the moment I’m not usually so negative. I was quite positive until the presser, Martins comment on Carvalho, who I think is integral to the team, made me think we might not see much of him the next few games.

Nether the less I will cheer the lads whoever is on the pitch. I do think today’s game is a must win game, we are in the last chance saloon as far as the playoffs go and a loss will be devastating for the fans as well as the team.

I do think we should give MON the full 18 months he’s a good quality manager who I’m sure is out to prove something, it just all seems to be meh at the moment but I’m sure a couple of wins will set us up for a good end to the season.

One thing that stood out for me was how bad the atmosphere was during the Bristol game, I remember you saying you missed Pearce & Blackpool and for me that game seemed way more special in the ground.

I wonder if a larger proportion of the younger fan base just don’t seem to have the same affinity with Martin as those who were able to witness him as a player.

Yes was very disappointed with the atmosphere at the Bristol game. Your probably right with regard to the younger fans, don’t know why he’s seen as this boring dinosaur when he obviously isn’t.

I also think it was the whole Karanka thing which we all agree was handled badly. The ground seemed very apathetic. Which surprises me as we keep selling out.

I think the fans will warm to him as an individual, he interviews well and very emotive on the touch line, let’s hope the results are there too.

I pointed that out during the game today, it’s nice to see a manager vocal and active instead of stood with hands in pockets. He interviews very well.

I think that's the fans more than anything else.

He & the club & the media have all said he's targeting transfers & I have no reason to doubt that, but if you look at when AK arrived he had that first horrible game against Preston, he said he was targeting transfers, not a huge lot happened in the next few days, some fans got worried, I even remember one tweet proclaiming from somebody that we were going to get relegated if we didn't get someone in soon, & then on & around deadline day we got Dejagah, Lolley, Guédioura, Figueiredo, Pantilimon, Tomlin & Colback & everyone proclaimed that we were on our way.

Is there any evidence Martin won't get a few of his own guys before the window shuts?

I mean we've already signed one & there's a while to go yet.

& if the players do come in, whether multi-million pound superstars, or cast off's & freebies, they all draw wages & it all costs money, so if they do recruit they're not going to sack Martin, without giving him until the end of the season, just because it would be to ridiculous to hire a man for 18 months & then give him some money to spend, only to then try & spend more money to hire another man, who you couldn't give any money to, so probably wouldn't be of a very high calibre, without at least giving the first guy a go & seeing as there is a sum zero chance of us being relegated & only 18 games to go, changing after giving Martin a chance would leave us in a position where that change could make no impact either for good or for bad as we'd either be on for the play offs, in which case we wouldn't be sacking him, or we'd be off at a place of no point of return, therefore you'd give him until the end of the season and review then.

Again if you look at the corresponding period last year our performances did get worse at first, as did our league position & this was coupled with an all time club record goal drought, so I think if Martin manages to get anything from this season & he can still convince the board of the same things he laid out to secure the job & to meet the agreed goals when signing up, I see no reason why Martin wouldn't be retained to at least attempt to attain those targets, next season, with reviews of his progress as the season unfolds.

All seems fairly reasonable to me, I think the main real grey cloud is amongst some of the fans, some of them upset at losing a manager they liked, just as some were last year. Some upset at the thought of another season lost due to change, much like last year. Some worried by what the future holds, what will it be like, will we like it, what will happen to our favourites, will they stay or go, rise of fall, just as many have had similar worries in the past & as I say above, some worried by the lack of activity in the transfer market, or in progress on the pitch, just as after MW left & some just feeling like it's just another year at Nottingham Forest & at the end of the day all we can really do is go down to the match on Saturday, see how it goes, try & get behind the lads & if we do manage to pull something off, celebrate!

Aye.

But Wigan (a team in the bottom 8 and Forest have struggled against those...) was a turning point for me.

Forest made their luck.  Seemed to toughen up a bit.  Pass forwards.  Work the set pieces better.  Put the ball into places that hurt Wigan.  (Wasn't MoN even keeping on eye on Os' at LB to keep him 'in position..?')

(Transformed v the game where Wigan pressed and bossed Forest...until Watson came on...funnily enough...)

We'll know more after Birmingham and a couple more after that.

I'm quietly anticipating the addition of 3-4 MoN players that strengthen the spine of the Forest side so they can impose their game on the bottom 8, the middle 8 and the top 8!

SA.

I've got to say, they've barely had a mention, but I'm happy with both of those on our books, for obvious reasons.

Because the club haven't bothered to announce them and many people don't know.
