Still all feels a bit surreal at the moment. It almost feels like it's not our team doing this, like we're watching someone else. But they just keep answering the questions. In our last six matches we've faced two of the so-called big six, a Champions League team from last season, two teams who'd had upturns in form before playing us, a team unbeaten at home and of those six teams we hadn't beaten four of them since getting back to the Premier League. And we've won every single one of those games.

When we beat Liverpool in September, great result as it was I don't think for one minute anyone on this forum would've thought that the next time we met it'd be as essentially (goal difference aside) their closest challengers for the league. Yet here we are.

I dont know if you're old enough to remember the 77/78 season SR, but I remember feeling exactly the same then. There are a few similarities to back then too!
 
Firstly, in 77/78 we had just got promoted from Div 2 by the skin of our teeth and were largely expected to drop back down that season. Last year, we avoided relegation by the skin of our teeth and were expected to be in a relegation battle again.

In 77/78, all of the pundits (manly on BBC with the likes of Bob Wilson, John Motson & Barry Davies) kept asking when was our bubble going to burst. Even now, this season, the so called experts dont believe we can maintain our form throughout the rest of the season.

Interestingly, the top 5 at the end of that season were Forest, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal and Man City. Apart from Everton who have been struggling badly over the last few seasons, and Forest of course Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City have been battling it out at the top for the past few years between them.

In fairness, the game has evolved so much since our glorious champions year and whilst on paper at least, our 77/78 side were better than this current side, we cannot compare the two sides on like for like. In 77/78, we played 42 games a season. It was 2 points for a win, not 3. There was nowhere near the amount of money floating about in those days and there was nowhere near the amount of foreign internationals gracing our game. The pitches werent looked after the way they are now. Every pitch in the country had worn patches in both goal mouths and around the centre circle. Pitches would become mud baths during the winter (see the Baseball Ground as a prime example) The rules have been changed so much now and the game has become so soft in comparison. The likes of Kenny Burns, Larry Lloyd, Ian Bowyer and Archie Gemmill would struggle to stay on the pitch every game if they were to play now. Players were much harder back then. There was none of this rolling around on the ground as though they had been shot bullshit we see in today's game (Thank the foreigners for that one). A player could go through another player to win the ball, provided the ball was played first. Not like nowadays when a perfectly good tackle can warrant a yellow or red card. Games back then flowed. They weren't stop, start like they are now. There was no VAR and it would be a very rare event if more than two minutes were added at the end of a game. 

I could go on, but in all fairness, I didnt intend to go off on one about the now and then, just to say it felt very much how it did back then to how it feels now. There are just a lot of differences and a lot of similarities.

30,000 people were on the forum when we played Wolves is proof of that.

For some reason many visitors are reluctant to register. It is completey free and it takes less than a minute.

So I am trying to encourage those who have already registered to tell their family and friends to register and to come and join us.

Seems like an incredible number Sniff, ahead of a fairy meadiocre game against Wolves. I could understand it if it were before the Liverpool game on Tuesday, but Wolves? Doesn't make sense to me.

I was reading back through the transfer threads for our first season back earlier and it's amazing to see how the squad has developed in such a short period of time.

That first January we were desperate for reinforcements and ended up doing enough to keep us in the division.

The fact that this season we've not needed to do that at all and sit third in the division and our last result was a 7-0 demolition of a team often held up as the shining example of how clubs should be run is nothing short of remarkable.

I still have to pinch myself when I see players like CHO, Elanga, Wood and Williams who've all been around the Premier League for varying lengths of time turning out for us. Then you add the likes of MGW, Murillo, Aina and Milenkovic. Just an incredible time to be a Forest fan.

Ignoring that first window where it was more about bodies and short term survival since then we really have crushed it. Even in that window you had MGW and Neco plus a few that have contributed historically.

Then Felipe, Navas and Wood in Jan window. Followed by Aina, CHO, Elanga, Danilo, Murillo then Milenkovic and Anderson. Pretty incredible run of hits really. Sangare pretty much the only real bust since the first window and some people still rate him.

Let's hope they continue if/when we're fishing in more expensive waters this summer and somehow keep the momentum and keep the squad together for one more year.
