Does he need to increase prices is the question. CL clubs each earn €18.6m for qualifying then another 700k for every point earned. Any team earns extra money for each round up to another €18m for the final. Thats before you get to all the other spin offs, increased exposure, advertising, corporate and other revenue the CL brings. Increase in ticket prces is small beer compared to that. A sold out city ground at current prices generates approx £1m in ticket sales. Maximum games possible if you get to the semi final (lets be real here) is only 8 games. So £8m doubling to £16m is the max you could get. So overall relatively not much benefit to the club who will be minted from the CL run anyway but to Joe Bloggs who wants to take his kids for a great occasion its a heck of a lot. By the way I assume this would be Lina’s call not EM.

We should pay it.
We owe EM a lot. We would more than likely be in League 1 or League 2 without him or even worse not exist at all. We were one breath from death when he took over. So whatever he wants to charge we should back it and get behind him.

Nobody doubts EM has put the club in a brilliant position, that doesn’t mean he should charge supporters, who incidentally also backed the club when it was on its knees, whatever he wants. Im not necessarily talking about Forest, its the percentage of revenue gained from increase ticket prices is a small fraction of the overall revenue gained from having a club in the Champions League. Therefore why has the club got to fleece the loyal fans who helped them get there? No I don’t agree with what Villa have done either. You can watch a CL game for Bayern Munich for as little as €19. Most clubs charge more for CL and its fine to a sensible degree because the product is higher. To say the owners can charge what they like and we should be grateful is ridiculous.

He won't charge whatever he likes but he will charge whatever he thinks is fair and correct.
And what I said above has got everything to do with it because without him we wouldn't be having this conversation and this thread wouldn't exist. How about some of you say 'yes well done Sniffer you were right all along about EM. Many of us had our doubts and slagged you off for constantly saying that EM will get it right etc but you kept insisting that it will all come good and boy it certainly has'.

It has all come good and EM hopefully wont charge a ridiculous amount precisely because he is a good owner who actually understands the game and gets what it means to support a club unlike the majority of owners.
I was making a general point about ticket prices.

I will pay it if they don't take the piss with season ticket prices.
We can't have them saying the season ticket increase is because of CL football but then charge 60 quid for a CL ticket separately. I would hope tickets are still available for around 50 quid as it's huge profit.

As for prices there are counter arguments, for Champions League we need to invest again in the squad. Also we have as a fanbase declared we want to stay in a small outdated City ground which is fine but a newer bigger stadium could fit more people and bring greater income. Therefore to stay ultimately costs more, do we pick up some of that cost? |
