Joao Carvalho

Exactly mate. Yates has looked anything but championship standard the last couple of games, but because he’s English and come through the ranks people don’t have a go at him.

To be fair to Yates he didn't cost 13 million nor can he be sold for a price that we can build a new squad with.

We have to see the bigger picture.

I honestly can't see where Carvalho fits in under MON.

I will call it now, if MON stays in the summer then Carvalho will be gone.

Mon gave carvalho one hell of a bollocking for pulling out a 50/50.

And so he should. Pulling out of 50/50's in not acceptable, not in the English Championship.

...and there, ladies and gentlemen is the rub.

Don't play in winter. Don't do tackles. Don't get close to your man. Don't hold up possession. Don't score goals. Don't do assists?

What's this £13.5 million player doing again?

*due one mighty B*LL*CKING for pulling out of tackles, that's what. Well done, MoN.

'GET IN THERE! That's what I pay you for.' Brian Clough.

What did he do when he started vs Ipswich?

What did he do yesterday?

He's not getting close to his man, pulling out of tackles?  (Didn't Dias do that against Norwich?)  Isn't he supposed to hold up play?  Create assists?  Score goals?

He's in the Championship, MAN up!

He's not getting hurt enough.  To paraphrase Brian Clough.

I agree I struggle to see where he fits in however I think MON is missing a trick particularly with our current team. If he wants to play 451 then playing carvalho off grabban seems a pretty good bet to me.

Since when has an attacking midfielder been a hold up player, that’s pretty much the opposite. No one did anything v Ipswich and he only played 30 mins. What did lolley do v Ipswich or cash or anyone?! Unfairly singled out again.

I get it we probably overpaid, certainly based on what we’ve seen so far but as you seem to be repeating above that’s what you get with young players. I’m sorry if you were expecting more for £13m but don’t blame the player blame the board/manager/whoever sanctioned the move. Treat the player like everyone else, he had 4 goals and 6 assists. This puts him only behind lolley on assists and a couple of goals behind cash. Given he’s barely played this year and generally only gets to play when we’re losing I’d say that’s not bad.

Thought I’d look at goals/assist stats for other similar players as his production has been criticised.

Carvalho - 2272 mins 4 goals 6 assists
Grealish - 2247 mins 4 goals 5 assists
Norwood - 3222 mins 3 goals 8 assists
Mount - 2347 mins 5 goals 3 assists
Brownhill - 3168 mins 3 goals 2 assist
Howson - 3223 mins 1 goal 5 assists
Gallagher - 2058 mins 6 goals 7 assists

Tried to pick what looked like the most comparable player in each team, can’t say I follow these teams enough to be certain I picked the right player but I feel it proves the point.

How much do people think grealish and mount are worth for example?

Some excellent stats there Wassy.

Also bearing in mind that Grealish is playing with Abraham and Norwood with Sharpe.

Interestingly, Tyler Walker scored 4 goals in half a season under Warbs, playing a lot of games in wider positions.

Now dare i suggest we recoup what we paid for Carva and give our own players who cost £0, and have scored 20+ goals this year in a lower league, a chance?

Tyler has to be given a chance.  Given we've had a injured 'star' striker, an aged super sub...then Tyler would have been the legs in-between this season.  20+ goals.  If it was anyone else we'd be saying take a punt on him before someone else snaps him up.

Pre-season with the young guns along with Yates, Appiah, Worrall.
