I want points on the board and I was us at the top of the table, I really don't care how we do it.
"good football" and having the ability to grind out results are one and the same thing.
Becoming a team that is hard to beat, a facet that all good teams display regardless of the level they are playing at, totally depends on having a team ethos that every single player buys into.
There is not a team in the Championship who goes out and plays free flowing football week after week; the ones who attempt to, like Norwich and Leeds did, soon have teams wanting to bring them down a peg or two.
As with Norwich and Leeds, teams react quite differently to being put under pressure; Norwich manged fine, Leeds blew up.
I am guessing, but I would think that it is easier to develop that kind of mind set into a team and then encourage the attractive football, than it is to do it the other way round.
I hope that is the case because that is what it looks like MoN has been doing so far; the football has been dire at times but we certainly look hard to beat.

from a Forum perspective, the ultimate hope is that M o N lifts the moral and confidence and belief in everything that is happening, maybe a 2 nil down at half time and we win 5.2 might be required, situations where it was all going wrong but the fans get behind the team, M o N makes the right changes, Roy runs onto the pitch and squares up to their 6ft 5in centre back, the tea lady throws a cup of tepid tea and hits their manager on the back of the head
so an environment of confidence and unity develops
it needs to be the best of everything Pearce, Freedman, Warburton and Karanka were about, they all had some success and it all worked for each of them for a while
We may need to watch out, i think the M o N and R K would look very suited to Old Trafford, that is how confident i am, i would like to see a 2 or ideally 3 year deal, 1 year can be a problem in that we have all these players who have been under 2, 3 or 4 differant managers and 2 years or more puts more a stamp of authority onto the set up
These guys will give absolutely everything and know everything and maybe more, definately more than anyone else in the game about the DNA of NFFC
Ultimately be awesome to move forward from many wanting a new manager and actually embracing what we have
Anyway where is the 2022 Champions League final gonna be?

Warburtons football bored me to tears, the bloke was obsessed with his tippy tappy rubish
Some think MON is one dimensional but compared to Warburton? Meh.

Obfuscate as much as you want but we finished short of where we should and regardless of who was in charge it wasn’t good enough.
I wouldn't say it was piss poor, we won three on the trot for the first time in years.
Prior to that we went to Wast Brom and bossed them, we went to Preston and bossed them too, we also destroyed Boro at home. The situation is know where near as bad as some people like to make out.

Bang on Duncan. There was a complete over reaction by many fans at the end of the season.
I know people were disappointed at missing out on the play offs but taking it out on MON was not the answer.

I would.
On 1st March we were three points off the playoffs and FIVE points ahead of Villa with twelve games to go. The fact we didn’t make the playoffs despite winning three on the trot speaks for itself and the results in the final few games only blurred the lines on how bad it was.
Hopefully we can do some decent business this summer and get the season off on the front foot.

can i ask, what was your opinion of Karanka's first 20 games?
there was a few weeks where we had no CB's, and AK had loaned a good one to Rangers.
AK signed around 25 players yet we were also lacking up front and academy players were climbing over bodies to feature regularly in the starting 11 in midfield
'piss poor' ... in comparison to who? M o N's win percentage is higher than any manager this century and the 8 wins from 19 games was really very respectable taking into account the reality and comparison to any other actual past performance
The facts are we have the best manager in the division, he has won more than all the others put together, Karanka had 1 promotion with a squad that was worth around £40 to £50 million and involved 47 signings over 2 and half seasons
Anyone who thinks Karanka or any other manager in the championship is better than M o N is on cloud cuckoo, last season we finished 17th, the season before survived on gd, this season was alive most of the time and we finish the season with 3 wins to nothing
The £25m or whatever AK spent only brought our squad into line with the top half teams, but i think we all know that for every 5 players AK brought in only 1 is actually any good to us now.
Karankerism has left us with a huge mess and it is very fortunate we have a decent manager to sort it out.
I really really hope Karanka ends up at Derby, this would make things very interesting.

Who started in January (picking up the toys that were thrown out the pram by the previous incumbent) with a moral sapped squad, a 'role the dice' recruited squad that was flawed, set up to play in a 2 dimensional way that was sussed out by the bottom teams (stop Lolley and Grabban and you stop Forest) and...
...Martin didn't have the '1' and only striker (of note) that Forest recruited last Summer for many of the games and when he was 'fit' to play. And funnily enough, that coincided with the 'bad' run. When available? He wasn't 'fit.' If you're star striker isn't available for selection or fit enough you're not going to score goals or win games. Or pick up the points needed for the play off position from the '5' points out that you highlighted. Drawing won't get you there. Forest needed to recruit better last Summer. With more depth at CH and in the Striker position. They didn't. That is Karanka's legacy. Not Martin's. And he picked up from that.
We, allegedly, tried for Tammy Abraham. Martin did pick up 3 kick ass CHs which was the more perilous position of the two. Strikers are harder to get than CHs, it appears..? I'll credit Martin for fixing one of the two areas.
We can't assess Forest's malaise in isolation. If you do, then 'that' is obfuscation. :P
Martin has made the point that the club hasn't been in the Premier for 20 years. £25 million on players sounds a lot. But it was catchup. It could have been spent a bit better, I feel. And finding Forest out the top 6 backs that up.
This season Forest finished higher than last season. 3 wins off pipping Derby. (Those nearly wins at WBA, Preston and 'that other team' spring to mind. But we weren't in the same league as the Villa side that outclassed Forest twice. They deservedly go up.)
It's what 'could have been' but still progress. This year I expect the top 6. There's a solid base to build on.

Brilliant post. Pick out Karanka's 1st 20 games on here. And it was brutal stuff. The Karanka love fest was in no way evident during the 1st 20 games. He couldn't buy a win. But we recognise what it was. Survival football whilst a manager builds and assesses his squad.
And that is how you compare managers. Not something you can do in isolation.
Boro' had a losing streak of 6. They pick up and finish 1 point out the play offs despite being in them for most of the season. I'd rather be Forest than Boro'.
